THE PARADE

TODAY I DRESSED AS A CLOWN

BIG FLAT FEET AND A ROUND RED NOSE

I WALKED DOWN MAIN STREET

STARTED A PARADE

A MARCHING BAND JOINED US

THEY WERE ON THE BALL

WE WAVED TO THE POLITICIANS

THEY WERE IN THE CITY HALL

WE DIDN’T HAVE A PERMIT

WE ALL HOLLARD SCREW IT

YOU CAN HAVE FUN WITHOUT PERMISSION

WE ARE THNKING OF SETTING UP A COMMISION

WE MARCHED BACK UPTOWN

DIDN’T WANT TO LET THE CROWD DOWN

WE THREW HANDFULS OF CANDY

THE CHILDRED THOUGHT THAT WAS DANDY

THE OLD TIMERS HAD BUILT A FLOAT

THEY WERE PROUD; CALLED IT THE GOAT

THEY SANG SONGS, OLD AND NEW

THE YOUNG FOLKS APPLAUDED

THEY KNEW WHAT TO DO

THE POLICE AUCTIONED OFF BIKES

FROM TEN SPEED DOWN TO TRIKES

BY NOON IT WAS HOT FROM THE SUN

WE ENDED KNOWING WE HAD HAD FUN

WE’LL DO IT AGAIN NEXT YEAR

I’M ALREADY PLANNING ON WHAT TO WEAR

A FULL MOON

It rose in the east as a

Giant ball and beautiful.

It crawled across the sky

And around four o’clock

I could see its majestic

Shining through the trees

Outside my window. It

Was daunting, but peaceful.

I thought we were benefiting

From another of nature’s

Gifts. We are lucky to be

Living in this country. We

Must be alert and keep the

Leftists from taking us over

The cliff to socialism. The open

Border fiasco which brought

us so many deaths from

fentanyl and illegals, along with

high prices and shortages are

some of the things which will

continue to bankrupt us. We

must beat the Socialists down

and shine like the moon as we

stand up for freedom and liberty.

We must not forget those who

Have basic needs all over the world.

THE BAND PLAYED ON

The trumpets were heard

Being played by puppets

They were just grand

We have a new band

They marched down the street

In their uniforms so neat

We were all happy

They looked so snappy

Played lots of songs

Sousa surely belonged

They turned around

Headed for higher ground

Wanted more to hear

They had no fear

They looked for trombones

Tired of playing alone

They found seventy-six

They could take their pick

Then some coronets

They weren’t finished yet

Then they found a bass

I gladly took my place

We marched the whole town

Until the sun went down

The puppets were happy but worn

A unique band had been formed

A QUIET AFTERNOON INTERRUPTED

It was calm but gray when

I heard the rumble overhead.

Then, some thunder and lightning

Followed by a downpour of hail

The green grass was covered by

White in a matter of minutes.

The hail kept coming, and were

Of all sizes, from raindrops to

Golf balls. It continued for about

Five minutes, let up, and then

Gave a repeat performance.

No one here was injured and

No damage took place. The

Yard looked like a spartan field,

Green and white. It was quite

A production, and I was happy to

Observe it.

WHEN PAIN BRINGS TEARS

Sometimes, you just go blue

When grief hurls you a stone

You may lose a loved one and

It aches you, every bone.

You wonder what to do, feel

You are at a loss of thoughts

He was your mentor and friend

He brought me happiness

And I think I brought him some too

Life goes on, and we all pass through

We make the best of what we have

No apologies are due.

Each day when we look back

We can offer thanks for his gifts.

Our hearts are strong, even though pained

It is a heavy load, and it is under strain

The tears I am sure are going to flow

This happens when you’re feeling blue.

There will never be another whom

I can call my friend and brother

No there will never be another

WHAT TO DO

We have many friends

We see their trouble

Unlike the weather

We can make some moves

They won’t always work

But at least we tried

Some refuse to change

It is no use, they say

Don’t want to put forth the effort

Would rather sulk or play

I say shake them up

Work hard for their attention

Give examples of life worth living

Versus life with no expectations

Take them along with you and

Let them see your operation

How helping others lifts you up

Ignoring them, just leaves sorrow

Life is a mystery to behold

Accomplishments come from ordinary people

You do not have to be a hero

Once you taste a victory, there will be

No holding you down

You said you couldn’t do it, but

Now you wear a crown.

WAITING AND THE UNKNOWN

One has a problem with a body part

Mine is with the gall bladder.

It has to be removed, but first

My lungs and heart have to be strong

Enough to survive surgery.

Tests have to be taken, and then

Approved by the doctors.

The tests are not today and tomorrow

But two weeks from now and four

Weeks from now and then, I must

Wait another week to see my heart

Doctor and then make arrangements

To have the procedure undertaken.

This may be a week or more. Then the

Healing. If all goes well, I should be

Ready to go by the middle of summer.

All the hardware I am attached to

Presently will be removed, and the

Daily maintenance will be over.

If I was the only source of their

Income, I would be processed

Quickly and would not have to

Make phone calls. Checking on

How things are progressing. But

All is well that ends well.

THE STORY

He had come from Italy

On a big ship after the war.

He was separated from his

Family and the refused

Entry to our country at

Ellis Island. He could go

Back to where he had

Nothing, or go to Canada.

That is what he chose and

Once there, he began work

And kept working until one

Day he found himself at the

Windsor Bridge. He began

Crossing and finally made

It to the U.S.A. He found a

Settlement of Italians who

Gladly took him in. He had

Made his journey, and now

Had a home. He never forgot

How difficult a time he had

Getting to where he was. So

He dedicated his life to helping

Others. He never asked for

Anything in return. He married,

Educated. He died a happy man.

RAIN, RAIN

Of course, it was raining.

When she sent me for

The mail. I had old clothes

On and threw on a rain

Jacket and took off on my

Bike. Cars were traveling

On the same road and

One didn’t see me until

The last moment and

When he braked, he

Skidded off the blacktop

And ran into a tree. I had

To stop to see if he was

Okay. It turned out that

He was, and he said he

Was sorry that he wasn’t

More careful. He thanked

Me for stopping and then

Backed up right over my

Bike that I had laid down

Before running to see about

His condition. He took me

To the post office and then

Home. He said he would

Have my bike repaired. By

Then the rain had stopped.
