THE AUTUMN LEAVES

The fragrance of burning leaves was not to be on this day.

It was windy and raining, but the beautiful leaves with all

their color took me to those peaceful days when you

gathered up the leaves with brooms, rakes and even your legs,

swooshing them into a pile and then setting them on fire.

Everyone would watch, avoid the smoke and seemingly

be amazed that another year had gone by.

The color this year was spectacular and every shade from

green to deep red was present.  We watched and talked;

watched and thought.  The year had been and is surreal

with the Chinese Virus still a concern especially for the

older ones amongst us.  Facial masks are prevalent and

the various reports about effectiveness were confusing.

Everyone hoped they were doing the right thing.

The world is never at a standstill and we basically,

collectively never move in the same direction.

We all have opinions based on our own study and experience,

but still seem to herd and have a herd mentality.

Big ideas, often not executed, are reduced like

the pile of leaves which are turning to ashes

right before our eyes.  Nothing gets settled and

principles remain strong.  Many leaves remain to be gathered,

many will just scatter as will good ideas,

although ideas do not depend on the season.

The individual remains the individual and our condition

and world condition is dependent on the sum-total of

the ideas and efforts or lack thereof.  There will be many

leaf fires and the fragrances will vary as will their intensity.

So it is with our many discussions, especially on a rainy, windy day
