ANOTHER GROWLER

My body aches

It must be pressure

The sky is cloudy

Dark gray clouds

The sun breaks through

Only momentarily

Enough to lift the spirits

I sit alone

Plenty to do

No ambition

Everything will wait

Except the weeds

They keep growing

All of the flowers are lovely

My daughters work

I want to be in the garden

But a torn ligament

Keeps me homebound

Next year it will be

Different. I will be healed

By God’s grace.

I lost my balance and

Fell on concrete

A couple of weeks ago

My ribs are bruised,

But not broken

Three of my cousins

Picked me up and got

Me on my feet

I was in shock

Can’t remember who

They were, but I want to

Thank them.

Things will get better,

My ligament, ribs, and the

Weather. It is just a matter of

Time. I hope it goes by

Rapidly.

KINDNESS REMEMBERED

– Good morning said a woman as she walked up to the man sitting on the ground.

The man slowly looked up.

This was a woman clearly accustomed to the finer things of life. Her coat was new.. She looked like she had never missed a meal in her life.

His first thought was that she wanted to make fun of him, like so many others had done before.. “Leave me alone,” he growled….

To his amazement, the woman continued standing.

She was smiling — her even white teeth displayed in dazzling rows. “Are you hungry?” she asked.

“No,” he answered sarcastically. “I’ve just come from dining with the president. Now go away.”

The woman’s smile became even broader. Suddenly the man felt a gentle hand under his arm.

“What are you doing, lady?” the man asked angrily. “I said to leave me alone.

Just then a policeman came up. “Is there any problem, ma’am?” he asked..

“No problem here, officer,” the woman answered. “I’m just trying to get this man to his feet. Will you help me?”

The officer scratched his head. “That’s old Jack. He’s been a fixture around here for a couple of years. What do you want with him?”

“See that cafeteria over there?” she asked. “I’m going to get him something to eat and get him out of the cold for awhile.”

“Are you crazy, lady?” the homeless man resisted. “I don’t want to go in there!” Then he felt strong hands grab his other arm and lift him up. “Let me go, officer. I didn’t do anything.”

“This is a good deal for you, Jack” the officer answered. “Don’t blow it..”

Finally, and with some difficulty, the woman and the police officer got Jack into the cafeteria and sat him at a table in a remote corner. It was the middle of the morning, so most of the breakfast crowd had already left and the lunch bunch had not yet arrived…

The manager strode across the cafeteria and stood by his table. “What’s going on here, officer?” he asked. “What is all this, is this man in trouble?”

“This lady brought this man in here to be fed,” the policeman answered.

“Not in here!” the manager replied angrily. “Having a person like that here is bad for business..”

Old Jack smiled a toothless grin. “See, lady. I told you so. Now if you’ll let me go. I didn’t want to come here in the first place.”

The woman turned to the cafeteria manager and smiled……. “Sir, are you familiar with Eddy and Associates, the banking firm down the street?”

“Of course I am,” the manager answered impatiently. “They hold their weekly meetings in one of my banquet rooms.”

“And do you make a godly amount of money providing food at these weekly meetings?”

“What business is that of yours?”

I, sir, am Penelope Eddy, president and CEO of the company.”

“Oh.”

The woman smiled again. “I thought that might make a difference.” She glanced at the cop who was busy stifling a giggle. “Would you like to join us in a cup of coffee and a meal, officer?”

“No thanks, ma’am,” the officer replied. “I’m on duty.”

“Then, perhaps, a cup of coffee to go?”

“Yes, ma’am. That would be very nice.”

The cafeteria manager turned on his heel, “I’ll get your coffee for you right away, officer.”

The officer watched him walk away. “You certainly put him in his place,” he said.

“That was not my intent. Believe it or not, I have a reason for all this.”

She sat down at the table across from her amazed dinner guest. She stared at him intently.. “Jack, do you remember me?”

Old Jack searched her face with his old, rheumy eyes. “I think so — I mean you do look familiar.”

“I’m a little older perhaps,” she said. “Maybe I’ve even filled out more than in my younger days when you worked here, and I came through that very door, cold and hungry.”

“Ma’am?” the officer said questioningly. He couldn’t believe that such a magnificently turned out woman could ever have been hungry.

“I was just out of college,” the woman began. “I had come to the city looking for a job, but I couldn’t find anything. Finally I was down to my last few cents and had been kicked out of my apartment. I walked the streets for days. It was February and I was cold and nearly starving. I saw this place and walked in on the off chance that I could get something to eat.”

Jack lit up with a smile. “Now I remember,” he said.. “I was behind the serving counter. You came up and asked me if you could work for something to eat. I said that it was against company policy.”

“I know,” the woman continued. “Then you made me the biggest roast beef sandwich that I had ever seen, gave me a cup of coffee, and told me to go over to a corner table and enjoy it. I was afraid that you would get into trouble… Then, when I looked over and saw you put the price of my food in the cash register, I knew then that everything would be all right.”

“So you started your own business?” Old Jack said.

“I got a job that very afternoon. I worked my way up. Eventually I started my own business that, with the help of God, prospered.” She opened her purse and pulled out a business card.. “When you are finished here, I want you to pay a visit to a Mr. Lyons…He’s the personnel director of my company. I’ll go talk to him now and I’m certain he’ll find something for you to do around the office.” She smiled. “I think he might even find the funds to give you a little advance so that you can buy some clothes and get a place to live until you get on your feet… If you ever need anything, my door is always opened to you.”

There were tears in the old man’s eyes. “How can I ever thank you?” he said.

“Don’t thank me,” the woman answered. “To God goes the glory. Thank Jesus…… He led me to you.”

Outside the cafeteria, the officer and the woman paused at the entrance before going their separate ways….

“Thank you for all your help, officer,” she said.

“On the contrary, Ms. Eddy,” he answered. “Thank you. I saw a miracle today, something that I will never forget. And.. And thank you for the coffee.”

God is going to shift things around for you today and let things work in your favor.

If you believe, send it.

If you don’t believe, delete it.

God closes doors no man can open & God opens doors no man can close..

If you need God to open some doors for you…send this on.

TROUBLING WINDS

Troubling winds over night

Several limbs broken and

One large tree fell to the ground

It landed away from the house

I feel lucky there for much

Damage was averted.

I love the weather because

You never know what you are

Going to get. Today we have

Sunshine predominantly, but

Then a fine mist of rain

Interrupts the sun’s rays

And the man painting our

House is bewildered. The

Sun comes out and like a

Machine he is back with his

Brush and roller, and the

Paint can. Artificial intelligence

Will work this way. We don’t

Understand it but when the

Job is done we quit thinking

About it. There are massive

Fires taking place in various

parts of the globe. Overcast

days can happen because of

the smoke. The Climate Change

gangsters are all over these

happenings. They grip them

as a positive example of what

they think is man made and

won’t release that grip until

the think they have total control.

Hail stones as large a hardballs

Can cause severe damage and

Hurricanes and tornados have

Been a part of our weather

System forever. Blame it on

El Nino. As the to layers of the

Oceans warm, the weather

Changes to an unfavorable

Mode and again damage may

Be prevalent and extreme.

Yesterday the waves were

Going east, but today west.

Very interesting.

MORE IDLE THOUGHTS

Looking at the sky

I see sky blue color

Also huge white clouds

Taking the shape of

Various animals and people

I imagine drawing them

And submitting them to a gallery

They surprisingly sell

I have tee-shirts made up of them

And they sell well at the next fair

These are the dreams that

Make life exciting

I do not fish but can imagine

The thrill of catching and

Landing a 27 inch pike

I like trout and whitefish

But when cooked right

And fish will do

The sky is dazzling

The water is unusually calm

No boats, ships, geese, or ducks

I am alone in this big house

I pray that my body heals but

Am told that a torn ligament

Takes two years so by this

Coming February I should be okay

When it comes to pass I will know

The breeze is picking up and

Coming out of the west

That may be good or bad

I don’t know. Chatter about

Politics is coming from

All directions. One thing

We know is the country is

Divided. Envy is the reason

For so much retaliation

I pray for peace. Why are we

Fighting. Ego, power, and control

Seem to be the reasons, and the

Fact that there are people

Hungry and thirsty, being

Tortured, and murdered,, has

No bearing on decisions being made.

We must have faith.

IDLE THOUGHTS

A trail

It leads to the woods

Trees of many varieties

Sunshine filters through

Birds chattering

Crows communicating

Chipmunks scampering

A gaggle of geese

Headed for the water

I start singing

I know a lot of songs

I should write them down

The titles of them

I could sing all day

I tried to remember

The name of a certain artist

I was laying in bed at the time

Couldn’t fall into slumber

Went through the alphabet

One letter at a time

Stopped at the letter N

Nothing clicked

Then like magic

Rothko

That is it

An art museum in Houston

Dedicated to him

I felt good for remembering

Then thought of a man we

Played golf with at Hilton Head

He ran a junk yard which melded

Into a travel bus business

He had a sun who was a doctor

Out of the blue, like turning your head

His name came to me

Winston Setchfield

He, with his wife were heading to Texas

For their pad at Hilton Head

They stopped at a rest stop in Alabama

Parked in an opening

His twin brother was there

Neither knew the others plans

They had a good laugh

More thoughts later

MY MEDITATION FOR AUGUST 7

O Lord, You have taught us all we have

to know for us to enter into

Your kingdom for eternity.

The Holy Spirit is within us to guide us.

We must follow your precepts and

continue to do the unfinished work

about us. We have many opportunities

and so many times we do not take

advantage of them. We will be held

to account so it would be wise to

stand up and act whenever possible.

This is what we should do and what

You want of us. Those who ignore

their duty will never be happy. We

should love everyone and show our

kindness. When we do we honor You.

Sometimes the path is difficult but

that is when the Holy Spirit is there

to help us. We should be strong

when it matters and never hesitate

to do the work you have assigned to us.

MY MIND KEEPS DRIFTING

I wake up and see the sunshine

It filters through the woods and

Lifts my spirits. I feel very lucky.

I dwell on this for a while as I would

In prayer. I begin to think. I have lost

two of my children without notice.

I endure in my own  way. I reflect

On all we had been through. I hear

Again the last words of my daughter

“I love you, dad, thanks for all you do”

I tremble in tears wondering what

More I could have done. I lay still for

A while and then think of the

Pioneers who left their parents and

Went west to settle on a farm, never

To have contact with them again

Because there was no mail and no

Going back, just memories and sadness.

Just remembering the good times

Does not fill the void. Sons and husbands

Leaving to fight the enemy in senseless wars,

Is another sure way to bring tragedy

Always on edge when the mail comes

Or the doorbell rings, thinking about

the worst news possible. Heroes and villains

at the same time. I feel sullen, laying there,

knowing that this is the way the world is.

I wonder if it will get better or is this it.

The Man from Galilee gave His life for us,

But we cannot be reconciled by this.

We find it difficult to give up anything

And would do so if only we could make

A bargain to get what we want. This

Will never be. I remember that God has

A purpose for everything that goes on. I

Hope that I am on the right side of that

Purpose. I slide out of bed to continue my

Day. The sun is still shining.

I PUT MYSELF TO SLEEP

The waves are slowly hitting the shore

I can feel my eyes getting heavy

I look out upon the lake

There are no ducks to see or geese

It is quiet; the breeze barely moving things

A hummingbird comes to the window

Then seeks out the nectar from a plant

I have read some comments on Facebook

Again, I allude to the need for Critical thinking

We cheer for our side whenever it appears

That we have made a point which advances us

The truthfulness of the point trying to be made

Has no bearing on how we react

There is glee and we wave and raise flags

Others wish they had flags

I wish they could think for themselves

There is only so much room at the bottom of the cliff

I look out the window and spot a gaggle of geese

They move into the water and have purpose

The young ones learn from the older ones

They stick together and are not in a hurry

Jesus walked on the water. This act was witnessed

By His disciples who were amazed

He had a purpose in doing this and

It was to reassure His followers that He spoke the truth

He did not play games with His power

He used miracles to give affirmation to His teachings

He was or just is His own entity and knew the beginning

And the ending. He told us what to do if we wished

To be His followers. He did not instruct us to play

Games about picking the winner or about taking

Sides to see who would win and then either sulk

Of celebrate. He said His cross was heavy. These

Are the things we should be talking about and

Leave the smugness of politics to the foolish.

We should say a prayer for them so that they may

Learn before it is too late. I lay my head down and

Am asleep at once.

ANOTHER CHANCE

As we tiptoe through our last days,

The ones we have left. One may think

That the best are far behind, but

This assumption is false. Many of us

Have left opportunities    pass us by

And upon reflection think we are now

In for it, that being harsh judgement

From the Supreme Being, Who may

Go through the list He gave to us on

The mountain. There are no excuses,

Usually, that amount to anything, so

We must face the music. Our best bet

Is to begin to be a follower to the extent

That we are able. No one ever forgets

The feeling he gets from doing good and

The last of our days may be happy ones

And the gratitude for the opportunity

Fills us with quiet joy. We do not have to

Wave a flag because He knows. He is a

Forgiving Being and is also happy. We have

Taken the focus and our purpose away from

Ourselves and placed it on those who have

To depend on us and others like us. Life

Becomes joyous and we do not think of

Things like a Hall of Fame, but rather

Fall on our knees in thanksgiving for

Waking up to His will for us. Like a credit

Score we have raised ours overall to

One which is satisfactory. We are happy

And feel we fit in with the beauty

Of a warm summer day where the

Visuals and music of nature are overwhelming.

I SIT HERE STUNNED

A  muse by Steve Haarman

Aka Stanski

First of all I am thankful for life

And for people who are trying to

Make it bearable for refugees

Especially those who have to live

Amongst terrorists in their area.

Violent attacks by Islamic Fulani

Soldiers following orders by those

In command. There are ministries

There who are doing their best to

Keep as many safe as possible.

Precautions must be taken.

Despite efforts to avoid attacks

Many people have died including

A 5-year-old boy murdered and

Then having his body mutilated

And abandoned. This is very real

Violence in Nigeria. Their protection

Is rooted in the Holy Spirit. The

Missionaries are constructing  a

Micro-ranch for the Christian refugees

They have armed guards at the

Compound and escorts when they

Go into areas that are extremely

Dangerous. They feel that the safest

Place is in the middle of God’s will

Such faith is exceptional and the

Refugees are listening and learning

The orphans and widows are being

Tended to. The missionaries are

Teaching job skills which will get

Them off the streets and earn a

Living. It is sad to hear the complaints

Of those in our country who think

They have it tough and bad. It is sad

To watch the violence in our country

Where stealing and destroying property

Is commonplace, even though we

Have sources for food, water, and

Clothing available. Why are we

Defunding the police who put their

Lives on the line for us. The Psalms

Give us hope that the Lord will

Have the micro-ranch built and

Keep it safe-guarded. There are needs

All over the world and it is up to us

to tend to all of them.
