WHAT THEY DO WHEN THEY DO NOTHING

Some like to prance around with

Their stethoscope around their

Neck and look sternly ahead,,

Until someone gives them recognition

I was directed to a room to wait

Finally, he came and knocked and

Then opened the door. “Arnold”, he asked

“No” I replied, but before I could explain

He shut the door. A minute later, he

Knocked and asked if my last name was

Haarman and I told him I was he and

Said my first name was Arnold, but I went

By my middle name, and everyone called

Me Steve. He asked me what he should

Call me, and after giving him a bewildered

Look, told him, Steve. I then asked him if I

Could call him Richard, and he said no

Call me Dr. Vermeulen. He said he wasn’t

A head above everybody, but that is what he

Liked to be called. So, I didn’t call him anything,

Not Mister, sir, or doctor. He said he didn’t know

What was wrong with me. Then said that I could

Come back in five or six weeks if I want and

That he knew how to do the billing. I just looked at

Him and then left.

MARCHING

We are marching today

One day closer to spring

Fall was gray, and winter mild

Summer must be on its way

Landscape work awaits us

An exciting thought to say

The least, bright blue skies

And sunny days. Plenty of

Daylight to get things done.

Thoughts flash through

My head and II think of

Things I can write about.

Poetry, muses, and gardening

Friends, too, keep me going

I have to slow down my

Marching, we still have a

Ways to go. Wishful thinking

Is fun, but sadly we must be real

It will all come in its own order

Patiently we will wait, then,

in the not-too-far-off, someone will

open that golden gate.

UNDERSTANDING

There are so many things that

We do not understand and

I truth are not supposed to,

But have to employ faith and trust

That things are going the way

They are intended to go. There

Will be a time when we will

Understand and even be thankful

That we were patient and

Waited in a loving way for the

Truth of things to open up.

We will hear voices praising

Us and encouraging us to

Keep moving forward without

Complaint. The unknown becomes

The known and we become

Filled with joy and thankfulness for

Being patient.

WHEN GRAY IS DONE

After all the gray weather

The sun is a welcome gift

We wait and wait as if for

Something on thrift. We

Do not always get our way

Or enjoy our favorite day

But if our attitude is right

We will not take flight, but

Wait until our turn appears

To be. Weather is natures gift

It is given freely without

Hesitation and the good part

Is that you will need no

Reservation. Just wait, it will

Come and with it our joy and

Thanks. The brightness is

In toxifying, sometimes too

Much bliss.

TUMBLING TUMBLE WEEDS

The wind is blowing

There is no snowing

But weeds are in the air

They roll and stop as

They bump into objects

Then release and continue

On the plains they are

Ubiquitous in the Midwest

Not so much. They are

Fun to watch and follow

They make nice arrangements

And if they are fresh will last

For quite a while. Bugs do not

Infest them and they look

Right at home. On the plains

They drift right along and

Create glee for the passengers

Riding the road along side them

Nature provides us with curious

Things. We can enjoy or look

Away. The western movies

Are abundant with them and

Now and then they startle a

Horse. If each one provided

Food and water we would have

No hungry or thirsty people in

The world. Thei is not the case

JUST DRIVING ALONG

The doe, alone,

running full speed

across the road,

through the beam

of my headlights,

caught me

by surprise.

I braked and stopped,

expecting to see

a coyote or wolf

chasing its prey,

but, nothing,

just the now quiet

of the night,

giving me pause

to meditate,

as my heart

slowed its fluttering.

I wondered

about my demons

and whether

I would be able

to leave them behind,

outrunning them,

cleanly and swiftly,

or would they

catch up to me later

when the moon

was higher and brighter

on this slow moving night?

BODY ACHES

BODY ACHES

He does not make my

Body ache. It is I who

Causes anguish and

Discomfort. I do not use

Common sense, but push

Myself to the limits and

Then sufer the consequences

Sometimes accidents are

Involved and then I ask for

Relief. I listen for Our Ladies

Words, “Do what He tells you”

I hope He tells them to let up

And bring me back to normal

So that I may serve Him in a

Way that is satisfactory. There

Is much to be done and I want

To be a big part of seeing it through.

I pray my words are heard.

Jesus Calling: January 27th, 2024

Jesus Calling: January 27

Trust is a golden pathway to heaven. When you walk on this path, you live above your circumstances. My glorious Light shines more brightly on those who follow this path of Life. Dare to walk on the high road with Me, for it is the most direct route to heaven. The low road is circuitous: twisting and turning in agonizing knots. There the air hangs heavy, and dark, ominous clouds predominate. Relying on your own understanding will weigh you down. Trust in Me absolutely, and I will make your paths straight.

RELATED SCRIPTURE:

John 14:1-2 NLT

Jesus, the Way to the Father

14 “Don’t let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God, and trust also in me. 2 There is more than enough room in my Father’s home. If this were not so, would I have told you that I am going to prepare a place for you?

Additional insight regarding John 14:1-3: The disciples were obviously worried about death and what happens afterward. Jesus’ words still comfort us today. We know from what Jesus said that the way to eternal life, though unseen, is secure for us if we trust him with the future. He has already prepared the way to eternal life. The only issue that may still be unsettled is our willingness to believe him.

Additional insight regarding John 14:2-3: Few verses in Scripture describe eternal life in detail, but these few verses are rich with promises. Here Jesus says, “I am going to prepare a place for you” and I will come and get you.” We can look forward to eternal life because Jesus has promised it to all who believe in him.  Although many specifics about eternity are unknown, we need not fear, because Jesus is preparing for us and will spend eternity with us.

Proverbs 3:5-6 NLT

5 Trust in the Lord with all your heart;

do not depend on your own understanding.

6 Seek his will in all you do,

and he will show you which path to take.

Additional insight regarding Proverbs 3:5-6: When we have an important decision to make, we sometimes feel that we can’t trust anyone – not even God. But God knows what is best for us. He is a better judge of what we want than we are! We must trust him completely in every choice we make. We should not omit careful thinking or belittle our God-given ability to reason, but we should not trust our own ideas to the exclusion of all others. We must not be wise in our own eyes but be willing to listen to and be corrected by God’s Word and wise counselors. Bring your decisions to God in prayer; use the Bible as your guide; then follow God’s leading. He will direct your paths by both guiding and protecting you.

Additional insight regarding Proverbs 3:6: To receive God’s guidance, said Soloman, we must seek God’s will in all we do. This means turning every area of life over to him. About a thousand years later, Jesus emphasized this same truth (Matthew 6:33). Examine your values and priorities. What is important to you? In what areas have you not acknowledged him? You may already acknowledge God in many areas of your life, but the areas where you attempt to restrict or ignore him will cause you grief. Make him a vital part of everything you do; then he will guide you because you will be working to accomplish his purposes.

GOAT

When it comes to poets

I wonder if there is a goat.

There are many who excel

And cast a good story in

Their verse. I can write a

Poem, but I think my forte

Is in musings, where I attempt

To give a lesson on life or on

How to live. I especially like

Muses which bring light into

The darkness of life. An Indian

Poet states that God tells men

To build their temples with love

But we bring stones. These are

Moving words and no matter

The situation tend to have an

Affect on you. Without a crack

How does the light get in and

Once in does it not provide

Guidance to what He wants done?

We have much to do and must not

Remain idle while others need our

Help and are asking for it. Hunger

And thirst, as well as shelter are

Not easy to provide so it is wise to

Make the darkness to light connection.
