WHERE DO WE LOOK

Who can make the sunshine?

Sparkle the grass with dew?

Separate moons from stardust?

Could there be more than a few

Who bring joy to the masses and

Take away the pain, the scars?

So ingrained are the desires

To remove obstacles which

Have tendency to drain

Blood from our hearts

Leaving us morose, lonely

Alone to carry our cross

Where do we look for relief?

When all we hear is defeat

Anxiety about the need to carry on

Where is the staff

We were led to believe

Would be here to work with us

In a way that would not deceive

Will lead to the sacred river

Where we may be washed

Relieved from strain and stain

Of walking away empty when

There was so much to gain

Could it be that River Jordan?

The place we want to be

Join others in their songs

Escape from tyranny

Just cross the flowing waters

Find peace on distant shores

Be a part of the ringing glory

The sun there will be shining

On every people, every race

It is here we’re all the same

Trumpets blare will proclaim

This is that glorious place

ADDICTION HAS ITS WAY

ADDICTION HAS ITS WAY

We are in despair

Wondering why

How does this happen

Addiction

My child

Once

So close to me

And now

How?

How do you deal with this,

What is there left?

Love does not have a place

Release is all we can do

We look up

Wondering if

There could be intervention

Beyond what we believe

Sadness does not leave

Heads turned away

No contact with these eyes

No surprise

Same as yesterday

Everything

On delay

Must it forever

Be this way?

Hearts are broken

Every hour the same

Will it be this way tomorrow

What we view now?

We are on standby

Nothing left to intervene

Sadness is reoccurring

Like the tears in our eyes

We stay strong

Prepare for the call

Could anything be worse,

Then waiting for the hearse?

OH LORD MY GOD

Oh Lord my God

I am in awesome wonder

I am aware and awake

And see Your wonder

Earlier today at about two

I see the sun reflecting off

Of the waves in a strobe-like way

It was very hypnotic and

I knew I must look away

There was the promise of

A rain storm this night

Thunder and lightning came

In ways that made fireworks look small

The water that fell filled brooks

And streams that flowed into rivers

Harm and disaster came to someone

And still being presumed safe

We look away and concentrate

On the brilliance in the sky

The light strikes; we see the horizon

The thunder roars; Your power is acknowledged

We have a storm at our border

Foolishness in leadership has

Allowed this to happen

People have reacted from all over the globe

The invitation was made clear

The costs of “benevolence” has

Not been considered

Borders must be protected or

We will have no country

This rush is part of the plan

Socialism brought in to destroy

The last great hope of the world

We have legal immigration which is good

If carried on in an equitable manner

We abandon our principals

As though we were god like and

Knew the consequence of our actions

Open up, open up, but ignore the plight of Cuba

The storm moves east, but rumblings

And slices of lightning still strike out

We have no power as the climate changes

Our great lake was made by a glacier

Now the false god of climate becomes a religion

Bold men make a fortune with their lies

Man cannot make floods or drought

These people do not care as they

Fly away in their private jets to

Give a lecture or receive an award

They spend countless millions

Promoting nothing but a lie

We all know that it is warm in

The summer and cold in the winter

Nothing we do can change that

Yes, Lord, when I consider

All the worlds Thy hands have made

And when I see the stars, the strobe lights

And all the power You have displayed

I feel the sadness of how we have looked away

Unwilling to simply follow You

I am not ready to come home to You

There is still much work to do

I pray for grace, and bow in adoration

And I proclaim, how great Thou art

Your power throughout the universe

Should be seen and acknowledged

But trifle people ignore your blessings

And seek power in order to control

The dark angels lost their battle

And these fools will perish, too

Because You will come like

Lightning and thunder and we

Will shout with acclamation and

Bow in humble adoration and

Sing our souls how foolish we are

And how great art Thou

The thunder still roars and

The sky lights up and sadly

We forget to connect with Thee

Until maybe it is too late

ST. JOSEPH’S DAY

GOING BACK

I like to go back in time

               From time to time

Not because I liked it so

               Or couldn’t forget

It was a little different

               A much slower pace

Party line telephone

               A land line

Long distance calling

               Something special

Colonia bakery delivering bread

               Sealtest milk the same

Both used horses to pull the wagons

               You knew their names

The driving crew

               And after a while

                  They knew yours, too

Twenty seven houses on a city street

               Twenty different churches attended

                              Eight schools at least

A diversified group

               We got alone pretty well

Those times were good times

And I like to dwell there

Think about it a little

               Go back for a while

                              But not for keeps

I like today, too

               Don’t know about tomorrow

WHAT SONG TO PLAY

We are in troubled times

This is not the first occasion

People individually suffer loss

Nothing new about that

There is always a joyful side

To tragedies of every kind

The band played on

When the Titanic sank

The song was “Nearer my God to Thee”

It was appropriate for many

Other songs could have been chosen

Amazing Grace, What a friend we have in Jesus,

How great Thou art, Abide with me and

It is well with my soul all would have sufficed

What kind of music should we choose?

We are in a crisis and must keep our spirits up

Country and Western

Blue Grass

Classic

Operatic

Rock and Roll

Jazz

The Blues

Any or all will do

Just play it my friends

You know the tunes

The ones with meaning

That make you laugh and cry

Just think of jazz and the jazz musicians

They came together after hours and would jam until dawn

Hearing it could make your heart stand still

But tomorrow you will be glad that you listened
