MEDITATION FOR DECEMBER 8

I think that broken families lead to

a broken country and then watch

the politicians try to solve things by

throwing money around to create magic

that will never come to fruition.

Money is passed out for doing nothing.

This takes away incentives to work and grow.

We do need safety nets but also must reconstruct.

This takes courage and determination.

It takes leaders who care for all of the people.

We cannot ignore shootings and killings

that go on every week, but we defer

to excuses such as, we do not have

enough police and this after defunding

the police and being critical of these

public servants who put their lives on

the line every day, even at a traffic stop.

We need to rebuild the inner cities,

which will create jobs that pay enough

to support a family.  There are many more

steps and we must pray to the

Man who bore the cross for help.

There is a purpose for our condition and

we need His help in to understand it

and what we must do. Today is the feast of

The Immaculate Conception and with the

President-elect celebrating the opening of

The Cathedral of Notre Dame in Paris, we

Are all reminded of the need to pray, not

Only for our country, but for all the world,

Especially those who are hungry and thirsty,

And need shelter. Forgive us if we fail to

Respond to these needs.

MY MEDITATION FOR DEC 3

Dear Father

Help us rebuild our lives,

Our sacred places, our city,

Our relationships, our institutions.

There is much to do.

Let us be secure in emptying ourselves

For others so that we may be filled up

Again with more love and desire to give.

Help us stay close to you today.

God bless our country, our leaders,

And our citizens.  Amen

MY MEDITATION FOR DECEMBER 1

Beautiful beginnings of a new day,

New week, and new month.

We are blessed to be in this country.

We have much to do for others.

It is easy to forget when we are

Wrapped up in ourselves.

I ask my Father, Shepherd-Brother

And the Holy Spirit to be with us

As we move through this month.

Thy will be done.

Give us strength, and endurance.

And what we do accomplish —

May it be pleasing to everyone involved.

Amen.

THE SPORT OF SPITTING

I am bothered by the need to spit or

scratch in the sports arena.

Chewing gum at a dynamic pace

or at a slow predictable one also

upsets me. If they could see

themselves, they might reconsider

their behavior in these regards.

I wonder if they spit in church

or in their homes or offices when

all alone. I doubt it, but it seems

necessary to the coaches and players

when participating in various games.

Sometimes when they throw their

clipboards to the ground in anger,

they also lose the wad of gum they

were chewing. If they did, they

become busy stuffing their mouths

with one stick of gum after another.

Then they begin pacing up and down

the sideline, spitting as necessary.

I would hate to sit in front of them

in a movie theater. I don’t think

they mean anything, but spitting must be

required in certain sports. You very seldom

see it in basketball, volleyball, tennis or golf.

I guess it is just a sport in itself; a disgusting one at that.

SUN RISING IN THE WIND

Before eight o’clock the sun

Was a beautiful crimson ball

Clouds formed around it

Making it spectacular

The waves on the lake were

Four, five, and six feet high

A sight to behold if there was one

In town the five flags of America

Were flying at attention in formation

They all faced the east

An observer standing on Cedar Street

Pointed this out with glee

I congratulated him on being

So observant, but he wasn’t there

His hat flew off and he was chasing it

This fall, autumn season has been

A long beautiful season

The time for killing deer is

Coming to a close and families

And friends gathering for thanksgiving

There is much to be thankful for

Even though many have gone through

A rough period of their lives with

Sickness and the loss of loved ones

Somehow it is part of the Master’s plan

We have free will and can be miserable

With the blaming or happy with thanks

Prayer and action is the answer to

Many of the problems we perceive

We do not have all the answers, but

Can notice when those in charge are

Failing for various reasons

Our job is to take care of our own

Responsibilities and watching out for

Those in need incapable of taking care

Of themselves in a dignified manner

We will need help from those who

Tend to have egos and prefer control

We all have been charged and are accountable

When I go, I hope to see the welcome sign

And here angels sing, “A job well done”.

The sun still rises

PRAYER POEM

I look for the presence of Christ

Feel safe when He is with me

Problems disappear and work is done

How delightful this can be

He wants me in His Father’s kingdom

Asks me to help carry the cross

What a wonderful gift to be offered

Failure to act would be such a loss

Joy comes from being with Him,

Quietly walking hand-in-hand

Not seeking or expecting fanfare,

Parade or marching band

Recognition comes at the end of day

My profound thanks given as I pray

STANSKI

MAIL TIME

The little lady hobbled

Out to the mail box

The rural carrier was

Just up the road

He had stopped and

Her step was

A little livelier

Than usual

She got there and

Pulled the lid up,

Lowered the red flag

Her box was half-full

She scurried back

To the house and

Began sorting

The stack:

Advertising

Letters requesting money

Some bills and to her thrill

A few letters

These were unexpected

But meant so much to her

She savored them

Read them

Then re-read them

Then set them aside

The day seemed brighter

She discarded most of the rest

Went to the kitchen

To prepare lunch

Cyrus, her husband

Would be home soon
