A MEDITATION

A holy family was at the service at
Saint Francis on Friday
They were gentle people
Small in stature and all
The women wore veils
At communion they processed together
And each knelt on two knees to
Receive the Body of Christ
In humble adoration
Although we are not above it all
(This type of adoration)
There was much to learn
From that family
I often wonder
Was it the Holy Family?
I did not see them again

WALKING WITH GOD

This may not be a poem or a muse, but
It is a source of meaningful meditation
The poorest of us in this country live in
Luxury compared to most of the world
We are useful people and generous, too
We attempt to feed the hungry and
Help the downtrodden in our community
We give to the Salvation Army Bell Ringers
Give to the food drives at Good Neighbor
And Saint Vincent’s as well as the
Back-pack Buddies program at Zion Lutheran
It is good to do this and necessary

Our pain is nothing compared to the Hattians
In August they suffered from a 7.2 magnitude
Earthquake in an area that was home to at
Least a million beings. Many thousand lives were lost
Earlier in 2010 an earthquake killed 200,000 Hattians
Tropical storm, Grace, hit Haiti just days after the quake
What are we to do?

If we are servants dedicated to walk through the
Storm together, then we must abandon our selfish
Interests, pick up the cross and walk with Jesus
We must not neglect the suffering of the Hattians
We must give, not until it hurts, but until it feels good
Each of our blessings is a gift from God
Your gifts of money, if you choose to walk with God
Should be made to: Food for the Poor, 6401 Lyons Road,
P.O. Box 979004, Coconut Creek FL, 33097-9004

As servants of God, we should be doing this is we
Wish to do His work. These are problems on the fringe
That we were instructed to observe and act on
Let us do our part and be filled with joy

A NOVEMBER MEDITATION

Beautiful morning
The feeling of the Holy Spirit
About me
Mild temperature
Quiet breeze
Could this be heaven?
Still – Chaos in the world
Conflicts
Dictators
Alarmists
Even the pope
Hurricanes provide cover
For horrendous crime
Free will
Will have a price
Accountability will rule
Praise to He Who laid down
His life for us

Amen

ANOTHER AWESOME FALL DAY

Winds of a fierce kind are
blowing waves up over the shore line.
No one is overly excited as
this happens from time to time.
The knowledge that Indian
summer is on the way has sent
Many into a frenzy of joy.
The fall colors are still eminent;
Especially the Tamaracks
which are magical and mystical
They embed you into
a state of peacefulness which few
things can surpass. There are
soothsayers and philosophers
warning of a cruel winter with
many blasts from the north.
Sane people disregard the negative.
They have heard it all before.
They like my prediction of
a long beautiful fall,
a short, crisp, winter
And a lovely, early spring with
flowers which will give your heart
Back to you. But today is now
and the sun is shining in spite of
The wind and as it flickers through
the waving trees you get
Caught up in the joy of being alive
in such lovely territory.
Many do not understand
the Upper Peninsula and that is fine as
Though unselfish, we do not want
to be crowded with people
Possessing doubts about our sanity.
We know what we are and
What we have and that is good enough.
It is our gold and we love it.

THE JOYS OF NATURE

The crimson skyline in the Southwest
Rises above the tree lined dunes and over
The gray waters of the inland sea
There is blue and white clouds joining
One thinks of the majesty of nature
Gold is the present theme as the Tamaracks
Are in their transformation from light green
To green, then yellow green, yellow, dark yellow
And then the gold just before the brown and
Then winter branches as the needles fall to the ground
We love nature and the way it keeps us humble
Early morning light flickering through the trees
Lifts our spirits and keeps us feeling grateful
There will be some cold windy, sleet filled
Bone chilling days that some will call ugly, but
The wise old man will say that it is not ugly
But beautiful, just a different kind of beauty
It is wise to remember this: Everything is not
Always handed to us on a plate. Sometimes we
Have to look for it and the beauty in nature is
One of those things. A splash of yellow leaves
On a dark curvy road is a gift. Stay aware and
Remember the roses and the bursting vegetable
Gardens as we listen to the wind and the waves
Which pound the beach in various rhythms
Whitecaps, lightning and rolling thunder should
Be as important to us as the gold we see just
Before the leaves unfold in the spring
Gifts, gifts! Some obvious and others we must
Look for, but all make up the joy of nature

REMEMBERING CAROL

A CAROL TO MOM

She had a golden touch,
which explained the richness of her living.
Her heart was open just enough,
to give out all the love that was needed
for the right here and now.
Her soul she would feed with only triple washed,
certified organic, gospel be damned truth.
Her soul was pure.
She was always on the lookout
for scraps, discards and rejects.
She found uses for all of these,
never related and connected only by the fact
that they all added layers to her nest.
Little feathers added one by one
brought warmth and comfort.
She kept this quiet with only subtle mention,
but radiated it with her glow
of peace, hope and understanding.
She reached out far enough
so you would always know
that her hand was there, waiting.
Her voice was much like the soft summer song
of early morning nature.
She had a silver lining,
but it never came with a storm.
Her only complaint was of not enough hours.
Our complaint was,
there was not enough of her.
She was an original,
first and only version,
pure joy and now gone.

POEM ON DANDIES

Many dandies out there
Able to survive the times
Always showing that they care
Giving pennies as though they were dimes
Someone will put them in their place
Then they will fall out of grace
