EARLY KNOCKING

I had a feeling

A long, beautiful fall

With an Indian summer

But that was blown away

By an early winter blizzard

Causing schools to be closed

And even more havoc for drivers

You cannot fool Mother Nature

But she will never stop with us

We are to be kept in place

Regardless of the price

We have to pay which is

Sometimes greater than

What we planned

We accept our fate

Sometimes on a high and

Often on a low

Monday’s light will show us

What we are up against

There will be sore muscles

Possible frostbite

Cold fingers and toes

It is never easy

These firsts of every season

Tell us we should have prepared

Now it is night and we hear noises

Pine cones hitting the house

The wind ferociously blowing

Unseen damage and a hollow feeling

Six to eight trips up and down the driveway

With the snow-blower clearing the way

A break for hot coffee, then

A trip to the bedroom for

A long winter’s nap, even though

It is over two weeks until winter

Could Indian summer have a chance?

We will wait and see

All things are possible however unlikely

Stay strong my friends

This is just the beginning

MY MEDITATION FOR December 5, 2021

A new day; a Sunday

The weatherman calling for snow

Be safe; be safe if you are traveling

Remember the Lord travels with you

He gave us this day and wants us to honor Him

It is fitting and proper to do this

Do not think of ourselves

Pass our blessings on to others

The Crown Prince of Everything and Everywhere

Will be pleased that we wish to follow Him

He does not want us to forget those on the fringes

When we care for them; when we give ourselves to them;

We are following His precepts and He will watch over us

The thing of life is respect for others

It is one life; live it; don’t waste even a minute of it

Remember to laugh, think and cry everyday

Life’s meaning will open up to us when we do this

FOREWARNED IS FOREARMED

Forewarned is forearmed.

An old saying, but holding true

We think, so many times,

That we are prepared.

We are flying high; confident

Then is may occur to us that

We have very little control.

A new life pops up every day.

The sun will also shine for us,

But some days will start out

Gray, bone-chilling cold, with

Sleet and hostile winds blowing.

What an ugly day, some will say,

But the wisdom from an old man

Will interject, “No, it is a beautiful day;

Just a different kind of beauty.”

The words sting us because they are true

And we are ashamed that we forgot to look.

This sounds so familiar and we often find

Ourselves backtracking and taking second looks.

We see our errors, our oversights, and are sorry.

We are thinking of ourselves and

Have forgotten our duty to others.

We must respect them.

It is our duty to help them.

This may take us off our course we think,

But really it is the course we must take.

Otherwise what is life; what gives it meaning.

An old man said that life is the four seasons.

If you have seen the seasons then you know life.

You know the seasons are not the same for everyone.

Many are suffering through no fault of their own.

They are on the fringes and remain there through

All of the seasons, waiting for help (from us).

The seasons remain the same for them.

As followers, we should be there, at least in spirit,

Doing all that we can to improve their condition.

This is one precious life, a miracle that we are living.

We must give it meaning, by our loving acts for others.

Every day we should laugh, think and cry.

Now we are forewarned and ready to take the steps.

GETTING THERE

Not quite winter,

but getting close.

A new day with

expectations of cold.

Mister sun surprised us

and brought us light;

bright light, almost blinding

When it highlighted a piece of art

It brought out colors

you didn’t know existed.

The power and surprise

of nature is awesome.

In many ways we imitate nature.

We can outshine our normal selves

often surprising others and

actually lifting them.

Shouldn’t that be the story of life?

We wake up, pray and then

begin to excel continually.

What a change it would bring.

A way to improve the world.

Just one step at a time,

one person at a time and

one day after another.

It is close to winter, but

a good time to start.

Let us get started.

It will be a long winter,

but then a glorious spring.

Looking back we will see that

we gave up ourselves to something bigger

Isn’t that the way it should be?

PROSPERITY TO CRYING FOR HELP

Why do we forget the Liberty Bell?

Because it has a crack

Celebrate the fissure

It lets the light in

We need the light for

It seems we have lost our way

We have lost track of what

Our founding fathers and

Their armies went through

To secure our independence

And form a new union

Which we think is perfect

As it includes God give rights of life,

Liberty, and the pursuit of happiness

Precious words with deep meaning

Do we not need His light

To show us the way and

Remove us from the darkness

That has worked itself

Into our leadership adding

Frustration to our lives

The light He has brought

Is being disregarded and almost

Mocked as we ignore Him in

The way we do things today

We strip Him from our schools,

From the public buildings and

The public squares where we

Once celebrated Him seasonally

Now it is easy to be in denial

Find excuses for abandoning Him

But still He is with us giving us light

We are mostly weak and do not

Give thanks for this great gift

We look at our country and the

The glibness of our leaders

We are upside down and few

Recognize our transformation downward

There is time to wake up and

Slowly we are as conditions worsen

The houses of worship will soon

Be filling up with people in need of Him

For this we can and will give thanks

WRITING TIME

Summer pushed

Encouraged us, then

Like the matador

Waved the red cloak and

The bull of winter brushed by

Now we wait and write

This is it

What we have

A small bird

Confused by light

Crash-dived window

Will fly no more

Was wanted by the One

Who knows every feather

What lessons for us

Shall we go further?

Step back and pause

Wandering aimlessly

Without goals

Are we trapped?

The question asked

Can we possibly move?

Do we know the pace?

Should we stand in place?

Trains keep rolling

Stay on schedule

We write our own

The way it should be

There is no tomorrow

Just consider this day

Today, the end of a cold month

We are confident, aglow
