AUGUST WATER

No one knows

They say they do

Give us facts

Category numbers

Tell us to leave our homes

All meaningless

Until the water comes

Then the hope

We had just held

Vanishes like echoes

There is no comfort

I am not the only one

What does that mean?

I am under water

Ruined for now

The heroes are about

Making saves

Ride their vessels

Doing their best

My family is safe

Many are not

We shall overcome

If only we could

More water promised

No power, food or water to drink

I don’t say, “Woe is me”

I pray to God

Take my hand

Forgive me

Help me see what is good

What is important in life?

Then let me act

Fulfill your purpose

The water rises

I feel better

More at peace

Knowing He is with me

It will pass

All things do in time

Then I shall begin again
