CYCLICALITY

We have been given so much in this country

It did not come to us for free

We fought for territory; explored; acquired more

Endured the Revolution; slavery and the Civil War

Pioneers moved westward and conquered the soil

Suffered hardships, deaths, but continued

Farmers maintained; became our heroes

We engaged in many wars, losing precious treasure

Liberating people in other countries from tyranny

We were vigilant and pursued peace

Our country and population expanded

Factories were built and economy grew

Communications advanced from letters and telegraph

To online 24/7 and media overload

While good things were advancing, evil lurked

Contentment, privilege and luxury

Forgetting to look out for each other

We lost our way and connection with our heroes

Did not pay attention to what was our destiny

Are waking up now to the wonders of this land of the free
