Yesterday when I woke
I looked out the window to
To south-southwest
The sun was filtering
Through the pines and
Sprinkled the ground
Through the cedar branches
With bronze and golden brown
It was a beautiful sight which
Disappeared a short time later
For a while it was neutral and
Then as the day progressed
The sky turned gray and depressing
Rain and snow was in the forecast
Dinner at six was in the light and
Later talking with my daughter
From California she spoke of
82 degree temperatures and
Oak tree and other pollens
She wondered if it was still light
Yes, it was just eight o’clock
We talked about an hour and
When the conversation was over
It was dark and depressing
From light to dark in twelve hours
From joy to despair in a day
Six inched of snow promised
For tomorrow. We endure
