MERRY MARCH MARCHES
MERRY MARCH MARCHES
March is going out like a lion
Storms of rain and ice
Sunshine giving promise
Just a prelude to more
Morning light teases me
Turning the woods to
Gold and bronze
Then the depression of
Gray, gray-blue prevail
And attitudes turns us
In the wrong direction
Where are the flowers
Where are all of the
Lovely smiles we miss
People upset for little reason
As though the world is hostile
What will give them change?
It is all an inner thing
But bad disposition selected
Joy has no way to flourish
Then nature takes over
Afternoon sun reflects
The shoreline ice
Reflects the sun
In the form of small camp fires
The brightest makes you turn away
This beauty is rare and cannot be lost
Pictures give not the same affect
The eye caught all that is needed
We realize our insignificants
Begin to learn patience
All things in their own time
Growth spurts are necessary
Many did not see
Many do not understand

A POET’S MYSTERY
People wander
In a sense – clueless
Possess no questions as
Who am I?
What am I doing?
What purpose do I exist for?
They just are
Carry on
Part of a crowd
Influenced in similar fashion
Follow the leader
Monkey see, monkey do
Life
Death
Birth
Repeat
A devil’s chant
Losses
Tears
Burials
Feasts
Movement
Without direction
Survival
A poet’s mystery

FREE MOVEMENT
The tire swing is moving back
and forth and sometimes in a
circular route. The visual brings
to me a yearning for summer
where a sandy beach replaces
an icy road. Winter has its place
in the big picture, but most are
ready for the change. Spring
brings us to our knees in thanks
for our redemption. Christians,
Jews and others celebrate this
in their way and pagan traditions
have become part of it just as
black ice has become part of
winter. We have to slow down
and take one day at a time and
think about what our goal is.
It will change as time changes,
and we should not disregard
our inclinations to do good
especially for those who need
help in the world. Look around
in any direction and we can see
trouble that calls for our
intervention. Sometimes we
can physically help, other times
we help by giving money and
always our prayers. The Father
knows about all the problems
and has given us a free will.
He will never leave us in
situations where we cannot
overcome adversities. The tire
swings and the world keeps on
turning. We must keep active
in doing what we have been
taught to do. only then will
we find peace.

BLUE GENES
Redheaded Belgians
Never carry to term
Must be anecdotal
Or a fact I never learned
Wonder what it is
The country or the hair
Guess it doesn’t matter
Can’t really care
More to life than waging
On other peoples fate
No matter the reason
Some babies don’t wait
A brunette in Thunder Bay
Couldn’t have kids at all
Disappointment? “ Not”, she said
Motherhood was not her call
A blonde I knew in Lowell
Was married in the fall
The baby born in early spring
Was a boy: they named him Paul
Redheads, blondes, or brunettes
All subject to the curse
Whenever offspring do arrive
We set it down in verse
Who are we to make the rules?
There is no one to obey
For whom do we give clues?
They’ve all gone away

FRIENDLY BLIZZARD
The snow was so fine that
It was coming through the windows
Not really but it seemed that way
At ten o’clock the sun was shining
Like on a late fall day. Beautiful
Then large flakes like leaves
Came tumbling by the windows
This lasted for a few moments
And then tiny snow crystals
Hit us like they would in a blizzard
This lasted for a few minutes and
Then things turned to normal
The lake water was calm and gray
Snow Mountains were receding
Now the sun was out again
The residue of fall emerged and
Had the bronze and golden color
Fine snow kept falling,
But it was all pretense
Before long the lake water
Will be lapping at the shore
And the real spring will have arrived
It will again be garden time
The tools have been cleaned and
We are eagerly waiting
