SHADOWS ON THE WALL

Three o’clock sun on a Sunday

Filters through the window

It catches a mustard yellow vase

Throws a shadow on the white wall

A golden chalice is imaged inside the shadow

My mind drifts to the “Last Supper”

Then to this morning when I drank

The blood of Christ out of an ornate chalice

I think about my meditations

Jesus died a horrible death for our sins

Now He wants goodness for repayment

We are forgiven but have responsibilities

I think about what I can do

Stay active in the community

Remain involved in the churches

This is just local; it is what I have

I would like to solve world problems

I think I could if people would listen

And have the desire to follow my advice

I can support agencies that help the poor

The main thing is to be good

Quietly good as I help and give of myself

I speak alone.  The shadow is still on the wall

It is dazzling and gives affirmation

To me on my ideas of goodness
