THE SPORT OF SPITTING

I am bothered by the need to spit or

scratch in the sports arena.

Chewing gum at a dynamic pace

or at a slow predictable one also

upsets me. If they could see

themselves, they might reconsider

their behavior in these regards.

I wonder if they spit in church

or in their homes or offices when

all alone. I doubt it, but it seems

necessary to the coaches and players

when participating in various games.

Sometimes when they throw their

clipboards to the ground in anger,

they also lose the wad of gum they

were chewing. If they did, they

become busy stuffing their mouths

with one stick of gum after another.

Then they begin pacing up and down

the sideline, spitting as necessary.

I would hate to sit in front of them

in a movie theater. I don’t think

they mean anything, but spitting must be

required in certain sports. You very seldom

see it in basketball, volleyball, tennis or golf.

I guess it is just a sport in itself; a disgusting one at that.

SUN RISING IN THE WIND

Before eight o’clock the sun

Was a beautiful crimson ball

Clouds formed around it

Making it spectacular

The waves on the lake were

Four, five, and six feet high

A sight to behold if there was one

In town the five flags of America

Were flying at attention in formation

They all faced the east

An observer standing on Cedar Street

Pointed this out with glee

I congratulated him on being

So observant, but he wasn’t there

His hat flew off and he was chasing it

This fall, autumn season has been

A long beautiful season

The time for killing deer is

Coming to a close and families

And friends gathering for thanksgiving

There is much to be thankful for

Even though many have gone through

A rough period of their lives with

Sickness and the loss of loved ones

Somehow it is part of the Master’s plan

We have free will and can be miserable

With the blaming or happy with thanks

Prayer and action is the answer to

Many of the problems we perceive

We do not have all the answers, but

Can notice when those in charge are

Failing for various reasons

Our job is to take care of our own

Responsibilities and watching out for

Those in need incapable of taking care

Of themselves in a dignified manner

We will need help from those who

Tend to have egos and prefer control

We all have been charged and are accountable

When I go, I hope to see the welcome sign

And here angels sing, “A job well done”.

The sun still rises

PRAYER POEM

I look for the presence of Christ

Feel safe when He is with me

Problems disappear and work is done

How delightful this can be

He wants me in His Father’s kingdom

Asks me to help carry the cross

What a wonderful gift to be offered

Failure to act would be such a loss

Joy comes from being with Him,

Quietly walking hand-in-hand

Not seeking or expecting fanfare,

Parade or marching band

Recognition comes at the end of day

My profound thanks given as I pray

MAIL TIME

The little lady hobbled

Out to the mail box

The rural carrier was

Just up the road

He had stopped and

Her step was

A little livelier

Than usual

She got there and

Pulled the lid up,

Lowered the red flag

Her box was half-full

She scurried back

To the house and

Began sorting

The stack:

Advertising

Letters requesting money

Some bills and to her thrill

A few letters

These were unexpected

But meant so much to her

She savored them

Read them

Then re-read them

Then set them aside

The day seemed brighter

She discarded most of the rest

Went to the kitchen

To prepare lunch

Cyrus, her husband

Would be home soon

THINKING IT THROUGH

The song birds have left

But they haven’t stopped singing

They just migrated to someplace warm

Others now are enjoying their songs

The Father knows where they are and

Who failed on the journey and

Who of them will return and where

We feel the loss, but should be happy

Others are now able to enjoy

That is the way it should be in life

Whatever we have is just for a while

It is fine to have but there is a time

When we must give it up and in

The process understand that we are

Not losing it but others are going to enjoy it

The Father knows this as well as He know

Our attitude about everything and always

He know every Church Bell that will be

Ringing today on His day

It is we, the foolish, who have to wake up

Our important thing in life is purpose

In one week we have had cold, wind,

High waves, snow, rain, a full moon,

Soft, mild breezes, warmth, and sunshine

Four seasons in one week, a miracle

There will be weeks where we just face drudgery

We must be able to accept both with thanks

Many in the world are dying for these beliefs

We know this and have been told and still

There is nothing we can do because there is

No system in place to deal with these atrocities

We my pray for the people affected and

Pray for the perpetrators, the dictators and leaders

God has a purpose for all that they do and also

For all that we do.  Our purpose may be

Coincidental with His, but we do not know

We know that the little birds are gone and

Are expected to return in the spring

A time for a new beginning here for them

And also a fresh start for us and a time

For us to divest ourselves from some of

Our treasures so that others may enjoy

We will feel light enough to fly and sing

SEEING HIS SPIRIT

I see the clouds and rays of light above them

and I know that I am being watched over by

the heavenly King. I have much to be thankful

for and I am thankful. I know that the world is

full of suffering people who are often persecuted

for believing in Jesus. It makes my heart ache

and steals away my joy. There are whole countries

where there is not enough food or water and often

the shelter is inadequate. These people are God’s

children, and it is up to us to look out for them.

If we are to follow Him and not just be a fan,

then there is no question about what we should

do. It is not easy, but either was carrying the cross.

I look at the clouds once again and I see the light

of our savior. He will be returning and at that time

judge us on what we did. It would be wise to have

a good record. He will know and judge us accordingly.

Praise to Him.

WAITING FOR SPRING

It is still November, but then again not so still.

The wind is blowing like there is no tomorrow.

Trees are swaying. It is a wonder that they don’t

break and fall to the ground. Waves are choppy

and roll rapidly toward the shore. We are waiting

for Indian Summer and still have hope. Maybe we

are foolish, bit if we can’t kid ourselves, who can we kid?

Rain is hitting the ground with force and so, we wait.

Tomorrow may be different. Yesterday was sunny and

bright all day. The sun shining off the lake was blinding.

Today I would like to be on an island in the sun. Next week

it will be Thanksgiving, and we have much to be thankful for.

We should do some deep thought about the condition of our

household, local school and churches as well as the community.

There are, without a doubt, many things we could do to improve

things. Are we up to it is the question we ask ourselves. Beyond

our town there are many needs. People in other countries are

recovering from war and its destruction. Many are hungry and thirsty

and cold. They have little hope and depend on us, who have so

much to help by giving donations to agencies that serve this purpose.

Our soldiers, police and firemen who have been killed or injured

certainly, deserve our consideration. We should not give until it hurts

but give until it feels good. It will make for a great Thanksgiving Day

and our weather will be of little concern.

ART OF THE TRIO

I get in trouble for being uncouth

Then I blame it on my youth.

I showed up late then started to cuss

Until I told them I didn’t know what time it was.

Where was I? at Ron’s Place

You know him, he has no grace.

He is like a blackbird, always crowing around.

Listen carefully, you can hear the sound.

What is its song about? It’s a lament for Linus.

To me, he was one of the finest.

I fall in love too easily, I may be lucid,

But Mignon’s song was for nobody else but cupid.

WHAT I THINK ABOUT AT THE END OF THE DAY

.

I highly recommend those who were so wrong

revert to critical thinking so that they do not always

find themselves in a quandary.

I think the next four years will be an amazing time when

The other half of America turns to God in thanksgiving and

Pleads for forgiveness for being so wrong. I think that we

Should all pray for our leaders and stop the name calling.

I think we should all pray for America and be proud again.

I think our brains and hearts should work together. One

Should not be a heathen during the week and a saint on

Sunday. I think we should all work together to understand

And uphold the constitution. We should find joy in giving

To others and helping others here and abroad. We should

Ask God for the grace to do this as Jesus said, “follow me”

I think that we should work together to make our school and

Community excellent. We should try to be the best that we

Can be.
