THE FRIDAY THEY CALLED GOOD

One wonders about spirituality, not

Found in the world today. It seems

With some exceptions, our focus

Is not the death of Jesus, offered

For our sins and redemption. We

Forget the terrible week He endured

Suffering excruciating pain, to which

He could not say no, stop. He was

Crowned, scourged, beat, and

Mocked and finally crucified and

Died. He did this for us at the

Instruction of the Father. We have

Drifted away from the awesomeness

Of these events, and seem more

Focused on bonnets, parades, eggs,

And candy. New clothes and shoes

Are part of the ritual, and we tend

To forget about those who are doing

Without. There is hunger and thirst

In many parts of the world. Terrorists

Are killing citizens and each other.

Crime is running rampant everywhere

But especially in the big, blue cities.

Leaders who exist are not listened to.

We will collectively pay for our insolence.

Time for us to wake up with thanks.
