It was Leonard Cohen who wrote
“Ring the bells that still can ring,
Forget your perfect offering; there
Is a crack, a crack in everything.
That is how the light gets in.”
So we won’t look for perfection,
But make do with what we have.
We may hear beautiful sounds
And be thankful for the light. The
Sounds will lift us to a higher plane
Where we will let more light in
Which won’t let us hide from sin.
We will know by then that there
Is truth in our hymns and will want
To keep on going until we patch up
And caste away every evil we find
Along our pathway. Then when we
Hear the ringing we will know that
The light was important and we will
Be able to sing along in gracefulness,
In a thankful mood using what we have
To get to where we want to be and
Our dreams will be alive and the
Mountains like small hills. We will
Listen for the echoes and ask for
The strength to keep going.
