NIGHT TIME STORM

Sound asleep. The music had stopped.

Suddenly a crake and flash outside my

shaded window. I woke up to more

flashing and thunder. This was no

Ordinary storm. I pulled up my blinds.

The sky was full of lightning from the

Shore to beyond the horizon. I went to

The kitchen trying not to touch anything

Metal. I poured a cognac and went to

The living room to watch the brilliant

Display. I was in Milwaukee, once, at the

Italian Fair. They put on a fireworks display

That went for a half hour. It was continuous.

Tonight’s storm was reminiscent and I

Settled in my chair to watch it. The thunder

Made me jump more that once but I was

Careful not to spill any cognac. The lightning

Went on and on as though it were here to

Stay. It was without doubt the most

Magnificent storm I have witnessed. Then

The electricity was out and you never know

How long it will take to fix the problem. The

Wind was wicked and we had lost a tree

Earlier in the summer. I finished my drink

And carefully went back to bed. The storm

Was letting up, but still amazing. I slept

through its remnants. No damage was

discovered the next morning.

ANOTHER GREAT DREAM

A group of friends were driving

around to find a place for a picnic.

We came to this lot where a lot of

tents were staked down in front

of an old house. We stopped and

talked and found that the space was

Their homes. They were homesteading.

We talked for a while and found that

the house could use some Improvements.

We decided to help and had a meeting

with those living there. We could fix up

and add on to the house and improve

the parking. We would get various

churches involved and make this place

a community shelter. This world be a huge

task, but we got the permits and began.

We had skilled workers in our group

and the money came from individuals

who cared, and the churches came

through with enthusiasm. We formed

a legal corporation and insured the house

and the corporation. More churches

got involved and before long we bought

additional property, needed to meet

the needs of the community. It was

a praise God moment and we collectively

prayed to the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.

This interdenominational church effort

gave shelter to those in need, until they

could be on their own. We were able

to train those who wanted in the

industrial arts. Some went on to start

their own businesses and hired workers

from the shelter. It was a great dream

and we never did have the picnic

but had several celebrations.

WILL IT END

The Holy Spirit is with us.

He will keep us calm along the path.

Although the journey is arduous,

We have the tools to continue.

We do not know where it will end.

It is not for us to know.

We keep our eyes focused on victory.

The enemy keeps us on our toes and aware.

Some will never learn and are content.

They do a hip-hip-hooray for their side.

Ready to follow them over the cliff.

I ask about their critical thinking.

They are big fish in a small pond.

They feel good about their position.

Others eat out of their hand.

They are always ready to deny the truth.

They succeed under false pretenses.

They are admired for their success.

There will be a day for reconciliation.

We have read about it in the Bible.

Many have forgotten about,

The sermon on the mount.

This lapse will not be accepted as an excuse.

Good and gentle people have the edge.

They have struggled and succeeded with joy.

They have honored their Savior with love.

They have helped their fellow man with service.

They have not looked for acclaim from anyone,

And have not waived the flag of victory,

But the one that says to serve the Lord.

Although ragged they are happy, for they

have landed a room in the Fathe’s house.

TRUST AND FAITH

It is difficult waiting for the sign,

But we must have faith.

Jesus taught us all we must know,

and we must have faith in His words.

It is a great thing to have faith and trust.

Not everyone is blessed with that ability.

What do we have to lose and what is there

to gain. When we have true faith and trust

we live following the precepts the Jesus

gave us to follow. We live a humble life

but accomplish much, usually by giving

ourselves to others who cannot for various

reasons help themselves. The ones who

are hindered by the authority of others

are especially in need of our help. Also,

those who are refugees and are hungry

and thirsty could lash out at the One they

believed would protect them. For them

it is difficult to be patient. We must keep

that in mind as our efforts do not improve

their condition. No one said it would be

easy and to give up would show the flaws

in our beliefs and character. We must

continue our love to the very end and

never give up. We may appeal to the

 Holy Spirit for help.

ANOTHER DAY

Here and elsewhere there is complaint.

The lake water is cold and gray and

And rain clouds hang steady overhead.

North at Lake Superior the wind is gusting

and keeping people looking for cover.

Fire in Hawaii, in Canada and in California.

In Washington D.C. political fire and hot air

is insuring that the country is not at rest.

Open borders are the cause of havoc and

death from drugs, murders, and sex slave

trafficking. The president is taking another

vacation in Delaware. He isn’t sure, but

That is most likely the place.

Nigeria is insane with internal conflicts.

All over Africa there are refugees trying

to escape from tyranny and the Russian

Ukraine war has brought a condition of

starvation and death to the refugees

who do not seem to be welcome in the

NATO countries. Land and religion are

the cause of devastating wars and those

in charge and other leaders are ignoring

or keeping silent as their part of the condition.

Some say it is part of the end time spoken

about in the bible, but more likely it is

the result of poor leadership. Peace is a

delicate thing and it doesn’t take much

to break agreements and shatter hope.

Our answer is to pray and offer financial

support to the organizations that are

helping those in need of shelter, food,

and water. It seems like an old story

but we must keep it fresh in our minds

and efforts to help.

ANOTHER GROWLER

My body aches

It must be pressure

The sky is cloudy

Dark gray clouds

The sun breaks through

Only momentarily

Enough to lift the spirits

I sit alone

Plenty to do

No ambition

Everything will wait

Except the weeds

They keep growing

All of the flowers are lovely

My daughters work

I want to be in the garden

But a torn ligament

Keeps me homebound

Next year it will be

Different. I will be healed

By God’s grace.

I lost my balance and

Fell on concrete

A couple of weeks ago

My ribs are bruised,

But not broken

Three of my cousins

Picked me up and got

Me on my feet

I was in shock

Can’t remember who

They were, but I want to

Thank them.

Things will get better,

My ligament, ribs, and the

Weather. It is just a matter of

Time. I hope it goes by

Rapidly.

KINDNESS REMEMBERED

– Good morning said a woman as she walked up to the man sitting on the ground.

The man slowly looked up.

This was a woman clearly accustomed to the finer things of life. Her coat was new.. She looked like she had never missed a meal in her life.

His first thought was that she wanted to make fun of him, like so many others had done before.. “Leave me alone,” he growled….

To his amazement, the woman continued standing.

She was smiling — her even white teeth displayed in dazzling rows. “Are you hungry?” she asked.

“No,” he answered sarcastically. “I’ve just come from dining with the president. Now go away.”

The woman’s smile became even broader. Suddenly the man felt a gentle hand under his arm.

“What are you doing, lady?” the man asked angrily. “I said to leave me alone.

Just then a policeman came up. “Is there any problem, ma’am?” he asked..

“No problem here, officer,” the woman answered. “I’m just trying to get this man to his feet. Will you help me?”

The officer scratched his head. “That’s old Jack. He’s been a fixture around here for a couple of years. What do you want with him?”

“See that cafeteria over there?” she asked. “I’m going to get him something to eat and get him out of the cold for awhile.”

“Are you crazy, lady?” the homeless man resisted. “I don’t want to go in there!” Then he felt strong hands grab his other arm and lift him up. “Let me go, officer. I didn’t do anything.”

“This is a good deal for you, Jack” the officer answered. “Don’t blow it..”

Finally, and with some difficulty, the woman and the police officer got Jack into the cafeteria and sat him at a table in a remote corner. It was the middle of the morning, so most of the breakfast crowd had already left and the lunch bunch had not yet arrived…

The manager strode across the cafeteria and stood by his table. “What’s going on here, officer?” he asked. “What is all this, is this man in trouble?”

“This lady brought this man in here to be fed,” the policeman answered.

“Not in here!” the manager replied angrily. “Having a person like that here is bad for business..”

Old Jack smiled a toothless grin. “See, lady. I told you so. Now if you’ll let me go. I didn’t want to come here in the first place.”

The woman turned to the cafeteria manager and smiled……. “Sir, are you familiar with Eddy and Associates, the banking firm down the street?”

“Of course I am,” the manager answered impatiently. “They hold their weekly meetings in one of my banquet rooms.”

“And do you make a godly amount of money providing food at these weekly meetings?”

“What business is that of yours?”

I, sir, am Penelope Eddy, president and CEO of the company.”

“Oh.”

The woman smiled again. “I thought that might make a difference.” She glanced at the cop who was busy stifling a giggle. “Would you like to join us in a cup of coffee and a meal, officer?”

“No thanks, ma’am,” the officer replied. “I’m on duty.”

“Then, perhaps, a cup of coffee to go?”

“Yes, ma’am. That would be very nice.”

The cafeteria manager turned on his heel, “I’ll get your coffee for you right away, officer.”

The officer watched him walk away. “You certainly put him in his place,” he said.

“That was not my intent. Believe it or not, I have a reason for all this.”

She sat down at the table across from her amazed dinner guest. She stared at him intently.. “Jack, do you remember me?”

Old Jack searched her face with his old, rheumy eyes. “I think so — I mean you do look familiar.”

“I’m a little older perhaps,” she said. “Maybe I’ve even filled out more than in my younger days when you worked here, and I came through that very door, cold and hungry.”

“Ma’am?” the officer said questioningly. He couldn’t believe that such a magnificently turned out woman could ever have been hungry.

“I was just out of college,” the woman began. “I had come to the city looking for a job, but I couldn’t find anything. Finally I was down to my last few cents and had been kicked out of my apartment. I walked the streets for days. It was February and I was cold and nearly starving. I saw this place and walked in on the off chance that I could get something to eat.”

Jack lit up with a smile. “Now I remember,” he said.. “I was behind the serving counter. You came up and asked me if you could work for something to eat. I said that it was against company policy.”

“I know,” the woman continued. “Then you made me the biggest roast beef sandwich that I had ever seen, gave me a cup of coffee, and told me to go over to a corner table and enjoy it. I was afraid that you would get into trouble… Then, when I looked over and saw you put the price of my food in the cash register, I knew then that everything would be all right.”

“So you started your own business?” Old Jack said.

“I got a job that very afternoon. I worked my way up. Eventually I started my own business that, with the help of God, prospered.” She opened her purse and pulled out a business card.. “When you are finished here, I want you to pay a visit to a Mr. Lyons…He’s the personnel director of my company. I’ll go talk to him now and I’m certain he’ll find something for you to do around the office.” She smiled. “I think he might even find the funds to give you a little advance so that you can buy some clothes and get a place to live until you get on your feet… If you ever need anything, my door is always opened to you.”

There were tears in the old man’s eyes. “How can I ever thank you?” he said.

“Don’t thank me,” the woman answered. “To God goes the glory. Thank Jesus…… He led me to you.”

Outside the cafeteria, the officer and the woman paused at the entrance before going their separate ways….

“Thank you for all your help, officer,” she said.

“On the contrary, Ms. Eddy,” he answered. “Thank you. I saw a miracle today, something that I will never forget. And.. And thank you for the coffee.”

God is going to shift things around for you today and let things work in your favor.

If you believe, send it.

If you don’t believe, delete it.

God closes doors no man can open & God opens doors no man can close..

If you need God to open some doors for you…send this on.

TROUBLING WINDS

Troubling winds over night

Several limbs broken and

One large tree fell to the ground

It landed away from the house

I feel lucky there for much

Damage was averted.

I love the weather because

You never know what you are

Going to get. Today we have

Sunshine predominantly, but

Then a fine mist of rain

Interrupts the sun’s rays

And the man painting our

House is bewildered. The

Sun comes out and like a

Machine he is back with his

Brush and roller, and the

Paint can. Artificial intelligence

Will work this way. We don’t

Understand it but when the

Job is done we quit thinking

About it. There are massive

Fires taking place in various

parts of the globe. Overcast

days can happen because of

the smoke. The Climate Change

gangsters are all over these

happenings. They grip them

as a positive example of what

they think is man made and

won’t release that grip until

the think they have total control.

Hail stones as large a hardballs

Can cause severe damage and

Hurricanes and tornados have

Been a part of our weather

System forever. Blame it on

El Nino. As the to layers of the

Oceans warm, the weather

Changes to an unfavorable

Mode and again damage may

Be prevalent and extreme.

Yesterday the waves were

Going east, but today west.

Very interesting.

MORE IDLE THOUGHTS

Looking at the sky

I see sky blue color

Also huge white clouds

Taking the shape of

Various animals and people

I imagine drawing them

And submitting them to a gallery

They surprisingly sell

I have tee-shirts made up of them

And they sell well at the next fair

These are the dreams that

Make life exciting

I do not fish but can imagine

The thrill of catching and

Landing a 27 inch pike

I like trout and whitefish

But when cooked right

And fish will do

The sky is dazzling

The water is unusually calm

No boats, ships, geese, or ducks

I am alone in this big house

I pray that my body heals but

Am told that a torn ligament

Takes two years so by this

Coming February I should be okay

When it comes to pass I will know

The breeze is picking up and

Coming out of the west

That may be good or bad

I don’t know. Chatter about

Politics is coming from

All directions. One thing

We know is the country is

Divided. Envy is the reason

For so much retaliation

I pray for peace. Why are we

Fighting. Ego, power, and control

Seem to be the reasons, and the

Fact that there are people

Hungry and thirsty, being

Tortured, and murdered,, has

No bearing on decisions being made.

We must have faith.

IDLE THOUGHTS

A trail

It leads to the woods

Trees of many varieties

Sunshine filters through

Birds chattering

Crows communicating

Chipmunks scampering

A gaggle of geese

Headed for the water

I start singing

I know a lot of songs

I should write them down

The titles of them

I could sing all day

I tried to remember

The name of a certain artist

I was laying in bed at the time

Couldn’t fall into slumber

Went through the alphabet

One letter at a time

Stopped at the letter N

Nothing clicked

Then like magic

Rothko

That is it

An art museum in Houston

Dedicated to him

I felt good for remembering

Then thought of a man we

Played golf with at Hilton Head

He ran a junk yard which melded

Into a travel bus business

He had a sun who was a doctor

Out of the blue, like turning your head

His name came to me

Winston Setchfield

He, with his wife were heading to Texas

For their pad at Hilton Head

They stopped at a rest stop in Alabama

Parked in an opening

His twin brother was there

Neither knew the others plans

They had a good laugh

More thoughts later
