CONTROL

It is normal to want to control

As opposed to being controlled by

Teachers, bosses, and parents

We like our freedom and if

Responsible why should we be

Subject to other determinations

Of what is good for us when we

Already know and many times

The need to follow other orders

Leaves us in the position of

Missing out on what may have been

A great opportunity. Respect for

Other wishes are necessary at times

Especially when you are needed

To liberate the controller to do

Something important that would

Not happen if we were not there

So many orders and rules are

Man-made and in the big picture

Not very important so they are

Bulked by many who think for

Themselves. Punishment may

Come because of this independence

And if we are not holding aces

There is nothing we can do

When situations are important

The story changes, but then again

Who is to decide what is important

It is best to be humble in times of

Crisis and go with the flow just

To contribute to the aspects of

Peace and sanctity, in the end

This is what we all want and

Sometimes it takes sacrifice to

Achieve it. We may have to violate

Our own principles, but it would

Be worth it. We would expect

The same of others in similar

Situations.

PARADOXICALLY SPEAKING

One person speaks and

Tells us something, then

Another says the opposite

We can assume that one is

Correct or neither is the truth

And that the speakers are

Insincere or just bloviating

Trying to show their power

We need the covid-19 booster

We don’t need it at all

Children should stay home

They should stay in school

The military all need the shot

Others say it is not necessary

Some get the shot while

Others walk away and quit

Now we have a shortage of

Pilots that the military had

Provided and thousands are

Stranded in the airports

Our border czar has never been

To the border and refuses to go

Our transportation secretary

Has never flown a kite, but

Rides solo in costly jets while

Others are stranded

The occupier goes to the border

It has been cleaned up so he

Sees and knows nothing about

What is really happening. But

He does know and all the

Crossings have been intentional

Will his homes be raided in the

Middle of the night looking for

Classified documents or is it okay

For him to have them unsecured

His predecessor had his home

Raided and everything found had

Been declassified. Wrongdoing

Is usually retaliated so the benefits

Had better outweigh the consequences.

FINALLY, THE SUN

Today, after 13 days of gray

The sun came back into the picture

Its brightness reflected off the lake

And was almost blinding to the naked eye

All the shadows and bright clouds

Created beauty that we almost

Forgot about. Waves are moving

Gracefully as in a procession to honor

The blue sky and lake water

We are very lucky to have this

To take our minds from dwelling on

The misery which exists elsewhere in

The world. How dictators can find joy

In persecuting their people is a question

Not easily answered. Camps without

Food or water have been set up to

Force their prisoner people to work

At slave labor. What they do is feed them is

enough to avoid malnutrition. Our complaints

About price and shortages are nothing

Compared to others suffering from floods,

Tornadoes and hurricanes. We have much

and must give much unless we are going to

abandon the directions given to us by the

One who carried the cross for us and Who

Died for us to save us from our sins. He

Will return and we will have no choice

Face Him. Our records will speak for

Themselves and we will sing out in triumph

Or bow our heads in shame because of

Our selfishness. It would be best to do our

Part of the equation now while we still

Have a chance. To not do is to say we do

Not enjoy the gift of sunshine in 32 degrees

Weather. Foolishness is not on the agenda

So, we must give of ourselves in labor or

Money to ease the burden of others. No one

Should be hungry, thirsty, or cold, nor will

They be if we all do our part.

WATCHING THE WAVES

The power of nature is something to behold.

Waves that were landing near the shore are

no longer near. They have formed ice slush

about one hundred feet out from where they

were. When they hit this mountain, they will

sometimes send a spindrift fifteen feet high.

It is awesome to watch. The temperature

is 35 but feels like 15 and the dampness is

bone-chilling. The horizon is difficult to see

and except for the trees, everything is some

shade of gray. It is still a day and a gift to be

thankful for. Roads are slippery and black ice

can be fooling and dangerous. The wise will

stay home unless duty calls them elsewhere.

it is a joy to see neighbors helping each other

when necessary, but you feel a sadness when

you think of all the misery there is in the world.

We ask: When will we ever learn? but the

answer seems obvious. If we do learn, we don’t

care and keep on making others suffer to control

them. We take away from them the things that

give them joy including their places of worship.

We enslave others for the purpose of benefiting

ourselves. This behavior will have to be answered

for and when there is no answer the guilty will be

prosecuted in one way of another. Our country

came together to form a perfect union, but like

elsewhere corruption has dismantled our

intentions and we have become a split nation

with one half wanting total control while the

other wishes for equal opportunities for all.

The waves seem to have order. They are alike

but independent with some staying low while

others reach high, and in the end when the

wind slowdown they will settle into a calmness

that we could learn from. There is always hope.

FREDRICK DOUGLAS

The great, historic, intelligent, wise

abolitionist, without being dramatic,

proclaimed that there is just one race

and that one race is the human race.

How foolish we are to carry on as we

do. It is time to heed his words. We are

so naive and many could care less about

how they treat others. Murders on the

streets are endless and we forget how many

were killed or injured in the Civil War.

One million, two hundred thousand is a

pretty big number. Time to wake up and

forget about our prejudices. It is never

too late to begin anew.

THINKING ABOUT SHEEP

Wondering what to write about,

I thought of Mary, who had a little lamb

whose fleece was white as snow and

everywhere that Mary went her lamb

was sure to go. Then I thought of the

Shepherd, Who knows all His sheep.

He has gone to places where His sheep

refuse to go. I look at his churches and

temples and see that the congregants

are diminishing. His command to them

is apparently more than they can handle,

and they find excuses for abandoning Him.

Many of His sheep have been killed after

having been tortured. Some are imprisoned

just because they are His sheep. Their places

of worship have been destroyed by bombs or

have had their doors locked by dictators.

He continues to add to His numbers however

because other people have the faith to follow

Him despite any potential consequences.

This is good news for all who cling to Him.

There will be a day of reckoning and those

who think they hold the good staff now

will find it taken away. As time advances,

we will see many changes and, in the end,

there will be one flock and one Shepherd.

As we live our lives we will do so in

a manner that assures us that we will be in

that flock. We will willingly sacrifice,

do His will, so that we may

stay with Him and be protected by Him

We will hear the weeping and gnashing

of teeth of those who felt they needed

to abandon Him. His commandments

were to love Him above all and our

neighbors as ourselves. Serving others

will be done willingly and we will be

filled with joy.

GRAY COLD MONDAY MORNING

Today is not the first day of spring.

We are just getting into January and

already the cold and grayness are

getting people down. There is beauty

but you must look for it. No one is

swimming and even the waves look

cold. The shore which was visible just

a few days ago is no longer visible.

It is covered with ice and at 26 degrees

will stay undercover for some time.

Snow is still clinging to tree limbs.

Usually, it falls off or blows off a few

days after the storm but not this time.

A few deer looking for food pass across

the lakeside of the house. They add a

little color just as do the crocuses and

daffodils in spring. Any change is

considered good, and we are happy

to see it. Many plans have been

changed because of the potential

danger of being stranded or sliding

on the ice. The black ice is the worse

because you can’t see it until it is too

late and then you can only feel the results

of being on it. Hopefully, no vehicles of any

kind are coming at you at the time. Some

travel too fast for the conditions, but they

are in a hurry and mostly in amazement

to make it through safely. This will pass just

as the heat waves end and the rain stops

and the storms pass. There is time to

accomplish much indoors if you have

a plan and are not lazy. It is nice to have

your indoor work finished when spring

finally comes because it liberates you

to frolic on the out of doors, and who

doesn’t like the aspect of that. In the

meantime we must make peace with

ourselves that there are four seasons:

Winter, fall, summer, and spring.

This alone should make us all sing.

Meanwhile, the cold penetrates through

the windows and walls and you add

layers of clothing or turn up the heat

which these days is expensive due to

the fiats of the occupier who was just

blasted again by the Texas Governor.

I hope your loved ones can avoid being

accidentally poisoned by Fentanyl, and

that human trafficking can be ended.

Time will tell. What once was almost secure

is now badly broken. I hope those who are

strangers to critical thinking are happy

with their choice.

NINE DAYS OF GRAY

There would be more, but the sun sneaked

out for a day or two then another big storm

which is frozen in place. We have hope

however, and know this won’t last forever.

There is certainty in that. It is not clear

and easy to deal with the weather for our

own pleasure with no effort on our part,

but because it will give us a better chance

of moving on with our projects which will

serve our community or other communities

and the ultimate effect of helping others.

This approach brings us joy when we enter

into it and when it is completed. We can

then go forward with the next ambitious

project, continuing until we become weary.

The wise will rest if possible and then begin

with a fresh, renewed effort. We are alive,

by what chance we do not know, and

hopefully instilled with the need to lead

and help others by serving them and

attending to their needs while instructing

and showing them how to follow and do

the same. We all want to be like a competent,

likable leader and can be one of the best

(In an unheralded way) by arousing this

impetus in others. There will be those who

are cynical but the antidote to this is to keep

on doing the right thing and while doing so

march by them to show them the thrill and

joy we derive in performing good works and

letting them see the remarkable results. It

begins with us and our realization that life

is precious and should not be wasted with

selfish interests but nurtured with goodness

for and tolerance of all those around us.

We see cities and villages led by the cynical

fall apart and decay and after a while built

back up by those whose insights are inspired

by the resolve of working for what is right for

honorable reasons. When this is done, we

have an idea of what magnificence is all about.

Nine or more days of gray will not bother us

because joy will turn them into sunshine.

THE NEED FOR MERCY

I sit and think as I look

On a blank sheet of paper

I hope something comes

To my mind that I can muse on

I read the Mercy Report

My stomach flips as I see

Disasters around the globe

The conflict in Ukraine is

Four months old and the

Country is flattened

Many Ukrainians sought

Refuge in Poland and Romania

Mostly women and children

With scant belongings

Looking for opportunity

To support their families

And meet their basic needs

Many countries were dependent

On Ukraine and Russia for

Wheat, corn, sunflower oil,

And fertilizer.  Farmers are

Going to be prevented from

Harvesting winter cereals, maize

Sunflower seeds, which will

Cause prices to rise around the

World.  The impact on countries

In the Middle East is concerning

Yemen, Syria and Lebanon are

Dependent on imported food

Which they are already struggling

To afford.  Prices and shortages

Are factors and inflation is

Rampart since the war

The world will forget, but

The emergency will continue

It is for us to step up with our

Humanitarian efforts as long

As needed.  We do have problems

But nothing like this crisis

We have much to be thankful

For in the midst of the world’s misery
