ABSTRACT QUESTION

Do you miss me?

   Of course, I do, but

Love sometimes means

Releasing, letting go

Let one find what is missing

Since what has been done

Look for the truth

Search the soul

   Open to God’s purpose

Set aside our own inept plans

The sacred gift of life

Our brief existence

What is meaningful?

How do we serve others?

Quietude and compassion

Need to be with Him

   Be like Him

This wish for me,

   For you

So valid

My expression of my love for you

WAVING TREES

It is too late in the year for nests of robins and

a good thing as the forty to fifty miles per hour

wind for six hours last night and early morning

would have blown them down as it did several

trees, which knocked out electricity for about

three hours and some are still waiting for it.

Their homes are cold and damp as rain

accompanied the wind.  Today I look at

a startling bright inland sea with rapid flowing

two-foot waves.  Relentless is the best word

to describe the scenario.  Today is world prayer

day for all the captive people around the globe.

Ruthless leaders are oblivious to the pain and

suffering, disease, and sickness; the hunger

and thirst; death causing malnutrition.

All saints day and all souls day have just past

and as we reflect we wonder why our world

is in such shambles.  It does not make us happy

and we know that prayer is the only weapon

we have, so we pray.  We gained an hour this

early morning and most people would like the

savings time episode would end.  In the spring

we will lose that hour as we move our clocks

forward.  I may have been useful when we

were and agrarian nation, but that is all by

the board and darkness will be earlier and

longer for a while and when you evaluate it

we haven’t gained much light at all.  If we gained

an hour each day for a month we would have

gained a day and then some.  We should try

that and call it leap day and give everyone

the day off.  I would vote for that and this

Tuesday I will be voting again.  I don’t know

how many on the left are happy with what

has happened to our country in the past

two years, but without any critical thinking

they will vote as though they like open borders,

fentanyl deaths, inflation, high gas and energy

prices, rampaging crime and failing schools.

I would like a world prayer day for them,

hoping that they will wake up.  Their proud

utterings and use of the blame game make me sick.

We can only hope that the silent majority is out in force.

SORRY IS A HARD WORD TO SAY

Today was gray and rainy.

You knew what diving into life

Means to those who suffered

The ill effects of a wind storm

One old tree cracked into two

Lay gently down in the woods

And as we listened we heard

That more was on its way

The conquerors would blame

It on bovine flatulence, but

Controllers that they are they

Are wrong again and have no

Notion of nature and natural

Law.  There are setbacks in

Life and they are usually

Accompanied with excuses

A loss has an explanation

And dignity is given up in order

To come out on top of the

Situation.  This is reality, but

Unfortunately, many who do

Not want to rock the boat go

Along with insipidness instead

Of confronting the truth

The conquering and controlling

People will not surrender even

When they can see with their

Own eyes the damage that

Their policies bring including

Death by murder and drugs,

Destruction, inflation, and

Shortages.  Their pride will

Not allow apology.  They want

The southern border open

To the drug cartels of Mexico

They go along with the rape

And sex trafficking of the

Illegals.  So sad.  It is a sad,

Sad situation.

NATURES FOLLIES

Nature teased us today

Woke up to gray and rain

Fell back into slumber

Woke up to sunshine and warmth

Got up; drank coffee

Went through mail

Watched it cloud over

Kept waiting and waiting

Finally at three in the afternoon

The rain came back again

This time in aces

It felt damp in the house

The roar of the waves

Sent chills up my tired back

Waves are three to four feet

No one is out

Depression is commonplace

We anticipate winter

Still have outside work to do

Rain keeps us away from it

This time we are thankful

Didn’t want to work anyway

Tomorrow may change that

We will pray for sunshine

The sunshine that sustains us

If it is to come

We will accomplish much

If not we will hibernate again

Still waiting for Indian summer

There is always hope

Meanwhile we drift

Forget about the good times

Dwell on the bad and

Hope this is all a bad dream

WHAT I SEE

We have just a few weeks before the year’s end.

As we look about we can see an array of beauty.

Some days will be gray and depressing,

but beauty can be found.

Each leaf is a miracle.

Each wave is a song.

We are blessed people and for

the most part get along.

We care for each other and

for those in the fringes.

We are generous, but still,

there is much more that

we could do if we apply ourselves.

There are never regrets when

one helps his neighbor.

Not everyone is as fortunate as us

and if we refuse to recognize this or

our responsibilities, then the lowly

and deprived are better off than are we.

Nature, in spite of all its loveliness,

sometimes raises its ugly head.

This year many people have lost

their lives, their families, their homes

and businesses because of floods and hurricanes.

People, besides first responders,

have come from all over the country to aid and

help restore some semblance of order

to the affected areas.  We have helped in many ways.

Those who could not physically help,

sent money, food, and water.

There are those in other countries who have also

benefited from our love and generosity.

When we review what we have done to help

a feeling of warmth comes over us.

There is nothing wrong with peace, love, and understanding.

JUST ONE MORE SONG

A new day was beginning

Almost at the time

The previous one was ending

We enjoyed a wonderful fish dinner

Along with a lot of wine and cognac

We sang songs, many songs to

The strumming of a guitar

We were loud and off key

But had a blast as we worked

Through every song we could

Get our hands on, including

Kenny Rogers, “The Gambler”

Which we all liked and felt we

Had performed a pretty good

Rendition.  The bottles kept

Emptying and the voices got

Louder.  The tambourine was

Jingling and someone tapped

On an old African Drum.  We

Wore on into the next day

Which is this day and finally

Someone suggested that we

Call it a day.  Someone called

Out, “Just one more song”,

So we sang one more and

Then another and another

And finally ignored the last

Request for just one more

It was time to go.  We didn’t

Exactly stagger out, but it

Was close and only two fell

No one was injured seriously

A good night that will

Long be remembered

SLOW TUESDAY

The morning after Halloween

The sun rises slowly and is blinding

Waves, barely formed, come

To rest on the shoreline

The lake is at rest and no birds are seen

The sky is light blue and on the

Distant horizon there are a few clouds

The temperature is around forty degrees

Which is not bad for November

One-sixth of the year to go and

Much work lies ahead and the goal

Is to be caught up before the end

Some of us are like that, always

Worrying about what we still have to do

It is good because we add to the

Intentions and ambiance of the community

Many see a beautiful jewel potential

While others are satisfied with a

Quiet lump of coal.  Every fresh idea

Is turned down by someone for various

Reasons like “Who is going to do it” when

No one has explored that aspect because

It is a new idea and there is a possibility

That it interferes with someone else’s plans

Which are usually selfish and take away

The chance to work on good projects and

As a result act like the slow, shallow, waves

And accomplish nothing in our effort to improve

Everything is possible if we come together

And make a determined effort, but egos and

The need to control usually get in the way

The sun is still blinding as it reflects off of

The windows and lays its light on various

Items in the kitchen exposing more work

That will get taken care of.  It will be a great

Day and when over we will be happy at all

The things done.  Maybe we will sing songs

Of praise to our creator, but we are never sure
