The storm was over

The rain had vanished and

Was replaced by the sun

A beautiful day to say

Goodbye to my children

They had been visiting

For over a week.  The

Flight was to Sacramento

So they would be occupied

On the trip for most of

The day. We had a good

Gathering and many laughs

Were had.  Memories

Surfaced, happy and sad

We would not trade our

Time together for anything

The years go by quickly, it

Seems, so we will see them

Sooner than we can know

Some are talking about

Moving here, but talking

Is easier than doing.  I

Hope they do make the move

I tell them that when they

Move here I will move to

Santa Fe.  They do not

Believe me, so they will

Have to move here to

Find out.  Adventures are

Awesome and New Mexico

Lake Michigan has a lot to

Offer.  The house is quiet

Except for the Television.

It is like going from day to

Night; from summer to winter

And you ask the proverbial

Question:  Where did all the

Time go?  I will get used to

The quiet, but will surely

Miss them.

TODAY’S HAPPENINGS

Last night a peal of thunder and

The lightning storm stirred our

Inner kid and put on a

Remarkable show.  Today

Started with rain but then

We had beautiful sunshine

I had physical therapy and

Then acupuncture in the morning

We stopped for coffee and such

Then came home.  My aching body

Felt better, but I know that I

Have a long road ahead to

Recovery. It is frustrating but

The dude shall abide.  I have

Many cheerleaders. But no

Pom-poms which is good

Yesterday I received a prayer

Shaw from my church.  I am

Thankful for it and for the

Kind thoughts

I am grateful for the many

People in our community

Who I know and care for

Life is a funny in the way it

Throws curve balls.  I would

Like to hit this one out of the

Park but I have to learn to

Walk on ice first.  I sang

“Blue Moon”.  It made me

Think that I am still waiting

For the only one my arms

Could ever hold.  I prayed

Please adore me and when

I looked the moon had

Turned to gold.  I wish.

But someone will come along.

Oh how easy to blame someone

For your own stupidity and your

Willingness to go along just because

Everyone else is and now three of

My best friends are pregnant but to

My shame I got away with it and

There was no joy about that but

Regret for my friends who were

Lost in the moment and found out

Later that nothing was worth the

Few seconds of ecstasy and the

Many hours a regret will never make

Up for the moments, we thought we

Were on top of the world.  We had

Been warned but evil overtook goodness

And now we hope that the light will

Overcome the darkness which prevails

Oh we’re not the only ones does little

To overcome the misery we find

Ourselves in. the friendships break up

And the blame game begins and soon

We are alone to think things over

By ourselves.  We are on a diet of

Despair wondering how we could be

So foolish and now have consequences

To pay.  Maybe we were lucky; maybe they

Were unlucky, but soon the world will

Be blessed with three miracles and feelings

Will change and light will overcome

All the depression.  People will no longer

Look at me as if I were the guilty one

And I can jump back on the Merry-go-round

Of life remembering not to roll the dice

It was raining cats and dogs

The sky had white, gray and

Black clouds hanging over us

It reminded me of John Ball Park

A nice zoo for the size of its town

We went there once for

Theater in the Round.  We had

A great time especially when

They let us dance on the stage

It was crowded but no injuries

It has been a while since we

Have danced.  You in my arms

Telling me how handsome i

Looked in my black outfit that

Had a tie I couldn’t tie right

We danced and then drove away

You looked at as many clouds as

You could, even naming them

I could only smile.  When you

Ran out of flowers you switched

To animals and even made up

Some because it would be a shame

To waste a good cloud. 

We arrived home and got inside

Just before the downpour

Oh how lucky we were

I told you so because we were dry

And also because I had you and

You had me and I got the best

Of that tradeoff

We listened to our records

For a while and sipped on

The good cognac I had saved

For special occasions

The lightning, thunder, and music

Went well together and after a

While we didn’t care

We went to bed on the old

Feather mattress

A wonderful night for dreams

I called the number

Given on the reorder form

It was a computer link

I followed along as instructed

A few struggles but I made it

Then they asked for

Shipping address

They wouldn’t accept

My post office box, so

I gave them my new

Physical address, which

They wouldn’t accept

I had moved since my last order

They told me to take it to

My bank to process

The bank struggled because

I use three checks to a page

And not one like most

People do.  They had switched

To a new company because of

Costs and the new company

Did not offer three to a page

So it was back to the old company

They did not go to five digits

On the checks numbers so i

Agreed to start again at 1000

They still had the shipping

Address problem and would not

Send to my post office box

But would rather drop off

The package on my porch

Where the weather could

Have a chance of damaging them

They also cost about six times

More than the new company

I had been about an hour

Getting the over-priced order

Right, so not it is over and

I wait patiently.

WATER TRIP ON UNKNOWN WATERS

The canoe rocked a little as we

Moved away from the shore

It was making its own music

There were no concerns as we

Moved into a medium sized

Pool of water which had been

Part of stream we were traveling

Beavers had caused the back up

Of the water and when it gave

Way it mostly returned back to

Its original stream.  We floated

Along into Lake Michigan and

Followed the shoreline to the

Chicago River and continued

While humming a few Frank Sinatra

Songs and eventually connected with

The Mississippi River and went all

The way to New Orleans

When there we realized we were

Not dreaming, had no money and

Had to make a deal to pay our

Way back to Chicago.  It wasn’t all

Bad and we thought of Tom Sawyer

And Huckleberry Finn and their

Experiences not needing a river boat

To come to their rescue.  Once back

In Chicago we found a trucker who

Had a drop-off at the Casino near

Where we live.  It was an awesome

Trip and we were already planning

Our next trip, but promised to lay

It out more realistic.  On the other

Hand, nothing ventured, nothing

Gained.

I believe in being more than

A member of this church

I believe in being a

Part of my community

In setting an example,

I’m building lifelong relationships and

Insuring my love is felt,

Not just by members of my congregation

                But by all

Not because it’s good for me

But it’s just the right thing to do

          How great is that?

Won’t you join me?

We wake up with the waves

Beating a tune on the shores

It is gray as it has been for

Most of the month.  The sun

When it shows is bright and

Warm.  We are supposed to

Get our share of the sun in

The next few weeks. 

The water will be warm enough

To swim in.  Seeing this relieves

Us from the anxiety we were

Feeling as we are expecting

Guests and do not want them

Feeling that they were cheated

From their week on the beach

Life goes on regardless and if

The weather is great we will

Be very happy.  It has been

Over a year since we have

Seen them, but we do talk

Once or twice a week.

California is bathing in

100 degree temperatures

While we are basking in the

Seventies.  You have your choice

Pick your temperature knowing

That it is an either or situation

I will take the waves and seventies

Not everyone agrees but that is

The way of life.  The week will

Fly by and we will have to say goodbye

For a year.  All the anxiousness

Will have bee for nothing

Another gray August morning

We are getting used to them

The sun is uplifting to our spirit

Gray is oppressive leaving us downhearted

The world is in chaos and what

We suffer is nothing compared to

What Jewish children suffered

During world war two.  From one

To eighteen they fled east after

The Nazi invasion of Poland

After, periods of hardship, homelessness

And confinement ensued.  Many

Children suffered from malnutrition

And serious illness.  No parents to

Help them.  This was their gray life

None of these children saw their

Mothers and Fathers again.  They had

Been sent to the death camps

The worry that cramps your stomach

Prevailed both ways except for the

Little ones who were not cognoscente

Had little hope for anything.  This was

Life and they knew nothing else.

Eventually, they were scattered and

Adopted, educated and went on to

Make discoveries and advance the

Human cause.  They had many gray

Days and when the sun did shine it

Was never sufficient to remove all

Of the gray.  They were brave people

And learned early on that complaining

Had little, if any, effect on it

No matter how hard one tries

It seems you are going nowhere

Today is the same as yesterday

The harder you try the less is

Accomplished.  You build character

You continue to travel every byway

And highway and hear the same

Negative replies.  You know you

Are good and could replace and

Outpace everyone standing in your

Way.  Finally, you get your chance

You become a shoe salesman

Having done this before you are

At ease as you begin.  You know

By intuition and experience

Which shoes are good or bad

For customers.  Kids had their

Heart set on a certain shoe, but

Will lend itself to pronation and

Further aggravate the condition.

The father is happy but the child isn’t

You improve the inventory control

Swapping out old merchandise for

New and having a great sale on the old

You move from department to department

Learning the rest of the operation

Your ideas are used and you improve

The operation of the store overall

You are called into the managers

Office where you are offered more

Money and assistant-buyer

A person overhearing the conversation

Is not happy as she has seniority

The quality of work does not enter

Her mind and negative networking

Begins.  You see what is happening and

Decide to resign the manager is not

Happy but understanding.  You move on

And find other work.  You like your

New job with animals.  Before you know it

You are the top man.  Life goes on.
