The bells were ringing in Santa Fe
A pope had been elected
White smoke
Bells ringing all over the city
On San Francisco Street stood
Saint Francis Cathedral
The bells kept ringing
Then it was announced
That the man from Argentina
Was going to take the name
Francis. When this was known
The bells rang louder than before
The city was abuzz, proud and happy
One day in the life of a city
Probably forgotten by most
After the initial impact
A way of life that is hard to explain
The world does not change and its
People certainly do not because
There seems to be no difference
Celebrations last for just a moment
Then it is all forgotten except for
Occasional blurb from the pope
Which also is soon forgotten
One day, the day of the white smoke
Was exceptional for the people of
Santa Fe if only for a brief time
We need leadership that encourages
We to follow in the footsteps of Jesus
Unfortunately, in my opinion, pushes
To the left where there are more
Takers than givers; Jesus went the
Other way and His way is the way
I choose. Don’t be outraged; the
Pope is still the leader and will be
Until he dies or retires
