THE LIFE OF THE BIRDS

Hummingbirds dart and dash

Competing with his brother

Natural behavior for them

They don’t try to be clever

On a sunny day, it’s rapture

Watching them flying about

On a rainy day, we empathize

But then again, we have no clout

Blackbirds are bluish-black

When they catch the sun

Just plain black against the clouds

Tree to tree having fun

All of the birds seem busy

Surviving by instinct and luck

They have no agenda we know of

Except to avoid being plucked

Large birds feed on small birds

This is the way of life

We are vague in understanding

Cannot see any of their strife

Blackbirds are like family

They watch out for each other

A lot like human beings with

Love for sister and brother

We don’t know what they’re thinking

They react according to nature

It will remain to us a mystery

But still are lovely creatures

We don’t know what we are doing

About half of the time we’re awake

A lot could be learned by watching them

And we need learning for goodness sake
