A COMPASSIONATE CALL

Tree hugger
A pretty picture
Carries with it
A connotation
Someone who cares
Loves clean air
Against nuclear power
Natural gas
Obviously coal
Want sustainability
Absolutely no wood
Subsidize renewables
Regardless of the billions
After all
They provide
Over one percent of need

Developing nations
Denied help
Coal was their option
Forced to use wood
And animal dung
Decentralized energy
Ambient air pollution
Coal would reduce this
Improve air quality
Allows for water supply and
Sewage systems
Hello tree huggers
Do you have real compassion?

The Tennessee Valley Authority
Back in the 1930’s
Provided cheap energy
For water and sanitation
Disease plummeted
Irrigation was possible
Food became less expensive
Culture improved
Should not everyone
If the possibility exists
Have access to improvement
The answer should be yes

We have access
To information on
The internet
Cloud-servers
Use energy
It is surprising how much
Where does it come from?
Surely not the wind and
Solar would fail

The war on coal
Is political and
No longer scientific
Politics wins
Coal projects stopped
No new investment
No new technology
To make coal cleaner
Third world countries
Continue the struggle
Does anyone care?

Like with smart phones
We must lead the way
Scale down costs to poor
Who still use wood and dung
Destroying quality of air
Stymies cultural growth
We should be cheering coal
A gateway to a cleaner future
And a better life
Access to good water
Think about it tree huggers
Compassion must rule
