INDIAN SUMMER

I have always loved Indian summer

Just as I think the month of June is precious

Everyone, at least a lot of people, have

Certain parts of the year that they like

We are near the end of fall season, but

I am not one to give up hope

I had to pretend today that we were

Receiving a taste of Indian summer

The morning sun was bright, almost blinding

One would have to look away almost at once

The day, although cold, was pretty with sunlight

The clouds came in many colors especially in

The late afternoon as the sun was beginning to set

I was inside and warm, although I had been out

Picking up limbs and moving them to my burning pit

I knew it was cold, but I disregarded that fact

In order to give some substance to my late summer stance

I looked into the woods for teepees and saw none

I could imagine them and that had to do

I remember in the Chicago Tribune the drawings of

Corn stalks shaped in the form of tents and then burned

Next drawing was of imaginary Indians dancing around

Small fires and the grandpa in charge would talk about

The days of old when this was all real including the Indians

This article was published every year for quite a few years

It was quite nostalgic and even now sadness occurs

When you think back and remember seeing it each year

Our day went on and did not warm up too much, but

That feeling of Indian summer certainly existed

I am a never give up sort of person, but also realistic

We have two more weeks until winter and you never know

Could we possibly be surprised we wonder

We never know for sure and can only wait and see

I think it would be a wonder

MY MEDITATION FOR DECEMBER 9

Your light coming through the stained glass

Windows forms a beautiful mosaic on the

West walls of the Church.  Beauty and truth

More precious than gold.  Our actions done

In Your Name also are priceless in your eyes.

I ask you to be with me when I seek gold

For our cause and in return offer a gift

That represents gold in Your eyes.

May truth be dominating and the response

To truth be overwhelming to the point that

My faith in you becomes my life.  Fill me with

Hope, kindness, and truth.  Let the seeds

Planted today flourish and the harvest be

Enough to feed those who are hungry and

Clothe those in need.  Amen
