EARLY KNOCKING

I had a feeling

A long, beautiful fall

With an Indian summer

But that was blown away

By an early winter blizzard

Causing schools to be closed

And even more havoc for drivers

You cannot fool Mother Nature

But she will never stop with us

We are to be kept in place

Regardless of the price

We have to pay which is

Sometimes greater than

What we planned

We accept our fate

Sometimes on a high and

Often on a low

Monday’s light will show us

What we are up against

There will be sore muscles

Possible frostbite

Cold fingers and toes

It is never easy

These firsts of every season

Tell us we should have prepared

Now it is night and we hear noises

Pine cones hitting the house

The wind ferociously blowing

Unseen damage and a hollow feeling

Six to eight trips up and down the driveway

With the snow-blower clearing the way

A break for hot coffee, then

A trip to the bedroom for

A long winter’s nap, even though

It is over two weeks until winter

Could Indian summer have a chance?

We will wait and see

All things are possible however unlikely

Stay strong my friends

This is just the beginning
