ENDLESS SUMMER

Flickering emotions
Like church bells ringing
Hope and despair, a normal thing
The gift given is taken
Replaced by a slow
Peaceful embrace of
The dawn of winter
Not just yanked away
Many moments remain
Just to play and make believe
You had a good thing
Be thankful; do not grieve
It is just a seasonal thing
You will still hear bells ring
Or the peal of train whistles
In the midst of night
Shouldn’t make us bristle
Golden trees just saying goodbye
Crimson lining of the setting sun
Soft whispers of wind
And mild waves still
Give us lingering feelings and hope
The moon rise when full is
Beauty that shakes us to the core
We know that Indian Summer
Will come and go, lifting us
Who could ask for more?
We do, but we have Thanksgiving
Then the tide of Christmas bells
Ringing on every corner
The Salvation Army plead for alms
Promising an early spring in return
The yard is groomed
Days are shorter, reminding us of
The importance of order and soon
We will be watching for the
Magical wand of nature as she
Gives us the early flowers and we
Begin to live all over again

MYSTERIOUS HAND

The hand of God; so mysterious
One wonders why certain things
Happen in the order they do.
A problem is solved; anxiety
Ceases and we go on
Without a second thought
A delay prevents an accident
And we never know of it
Helping others in an
Unexpected way can
Change the person’s outlook
On life. It is the little things
Many of which remain unknown
That make up the essence of our being
Love one another is the
Message of the One Who is
The Light. Somehow the Light
Gets in and we feel the
Peace that He brings. In
Our world of chaos we
Find calm in Him. To
Not know Him or to
Deny Him would be sad or
Foolish. Without Him
We are nothing. He is the
Golden Ring which we do
Not half to reach for
Because He is always with us
How great Thou art
