We all have a take on angels
I happen to be one
A human angel
It is a good feeling
There is not a list of responsibilities
What I do comes naturally or angel-wise
As a human I take the hand of Jesus
As an angel I take others’ hands
They don’t realize it, but certain struggles 
They have call for this action and
They are helped in a good, timely way

When I am holding the hand of Jesus,
I thank Him for allowing me to open up
He never responds in any way
Still I know I am doing the right thing

Often I am called an angel
I can only say thank you
I am thankful for the honor
Sometimes I think of the cross
Heavy wood causing stress and pain
Even to the point of falling 
The Bearer in exhaustion

I think of my angel wings
They are also heavy and can cause 
Inflammation in my shoulders and arms
I gladly suffer this pain, 
While being very proud of 
The correlation between the two

I have free will as an angel or human. 
Just as with everyone else 
It comes with responsibility
I accept it willingly and am
Thankful for the trust placed in me

What is wrong with these blacks?
Where can they possibly go?
Always exist with one eye open
Too bright to let it be closed
Pushed to the back of the bus
Told they were the lowest of us

Many rose above destiny
Like Rosa Parks, would you not agree?
Lived lives which made them proud
Still many waited below the clouds
Depression, suppression, and no jobs
Low income housing cursed them out loud
 
Government programs came to relieve
Only capped potential so it seemed
Trillions poured into relief
Made conditions worse is my belief
Government pay off to remain quiet
Just the opposite occurred --- terrible riots

Stay single, receive larger checks
Family breakdowns, potential is wrecked
I hear applause, this is the truth
To listen and agree, nothing to lose
They have told me:  their eyes are not shut
Enduring condition is not what they strut

Educational need acknowledged, 
So, too, parental enhancement
Individual pride preached 
The pride to advancement
My eyes are open and I saw their need
Help the down trodden has become my creed

When the day begins with 
Bright light, crisp air and
A longing to be held in esteem
By those about me, I feel
I am on the right track.  There
Is no pride or outrageous 
Expectations.  Amen

Sometimes we are caught
Between what we should
Do and what is convenient
At the time.  Later we have
Regrets mostly because we
Recognize how shallow
Mankind can be as we ignore
The cross in favor of
Self-gratification.  If we are
Followers we will silently lead 
The way and not be surprised
When others follow.  Our life
Can be magnificent if we 
Follow a few precepts and 
Experience the joy that follows

A blackbird rises from the side of the road 
I take its flight as a signal
What it could be, I do not know
Maybe a call to slow down

It is morning and I’m driving east
The sun is bright and hard on my eyes
Music is playing, I feel relaxed
Two deer dart out of the woods

They scamper across the road
I narrowly miss hitting them
Thankful is putting it mildly 
I remember the blackbird

Nature can be very enchanting
If only we give it a chance
Take time to smell the roses
This old saying comes to mind

Everything and everyone are connected
We don’t always understand
But the blackbird connected today
An event that I would call grand

Do we want to help?
Should we want to and
Be willing to give of ourselves
For the sake of others?  
There are needs 
Beyond our knowing and
Comprehension.  We waste
Time and energy.  Basically
We are not consistent in
Preparing for what we must do
We have excuses to offer
We must meditate and rededicate
Or we will never find the peace
We are searching for
Failure to act leaves us empty
And often depressed.  Some
Simple changes will reverse this.  Amen

Don’t make that turn
To belittle your brother
You’re in this together
Forever and ever
So easy to blame
When things don’t go right
Sometimes obnoxious 
Causing a fight

But the battle ends
With a win or loss
As all games do, and
There is always a cost
Structure was broken
Must be rebuilt
Involve everyone
Forget about guilt

Life is a story
Often it’s savage
Sometimes with glory
Mostly just average
There are winners and losers
Better to honor the game
Instill the discipline 
A better way to fame

Hold your head high
Do the best you can
Appreciate magnificence
Be your own fan

I am down and out, giving up on the fight
Nothing new, this seems to be my plight
I am forlorn, have been a fool
Have not a notion of what to do
I am empty, alone, no love in sight

A greater force is what I need
Someone dependable to intercede
To lift me to where I should be
So I may walk with self esteem

This will be my only dream
I have faith, I will succeed 

Who will help make this change in me?
Is it Jesus, Who will be my destiny?
I reach for His hand and tell Him
I understand what He can do

I have dared to dream my dream
Only He will make it come true
