MARCHING ORDERS

Don’t we wish not to fail?
And if successful what separates
Us from the down trodden?

What did we do that was so different?
What have we said that was rejected by those
Who had the power to make a difference?

Some quiet down; get back inside themselves
Without realizing the value of their recompense
Some cannot handle freedom

Who are we to criticize?
Are we all not sinners and
Who of us deserved the cross?

We go along oblivious
Not recognizing others talents
So much we will never know

Still we walk around like conquerors
And so easily disregard responsibility
Act as if everyone is on their own

Our success requires us to prop up
And encourage others to do the same
We don’t just pass by the rubble pile

But ask for wisdom – a rather new style
To help these that are down at the present
Like we were helped at an earlier time

We empty ourselves, then we may wave the flag
Showing others that gratefulness for
Our own character is deserved

WE ARE NOT ALONE

One makes it through
Hailed as a hero
Nothing like it
Euphoria without drugs
Yes, you were a highway man
But many built that road
Some of them in prison
Which begs the question
Why wasn’t I included?
Their sins were my sins
My success depended on them
Life is not a game of who wins
So you reach deep for every cause
Lead the way – you bear the cross
Let me sing you a melody
It is all about what is family
Many know about the struggle
Farmers need help; real help
Who among us is going to step up?
Those of us who see the picture
As a giver you become a fixture
But you do not wave the banner
Too many others deserve the praise
The Father above is the One to whom we wave
No one walks the road alone
Not everyone can make a song come alive
We are thankful just to survive
