THIS WEDNESDAY MORNING

Just before Christmas

Inland Sea is roaring

Wind blowing

Trees swaying

Ground green and brown

Nature singing

Bass and Baritone

Sky beginning to light up

Blue, gray and a tinge of pink

A new day

With many possibilities

All so seemingly normal

In an upside down world

Chinese Virus upset the globe

China on a terror

Africa making advances

Peace accords with Israel

Being made in Middle East

Unsettled election

The need for power

And with power, control

Faithfulness to our creator

In Whom we place our trust

All things will be resolved

We have our part

Consideration for others

Being peacemakers

Simple answers

But big efforts

Coming together in agreement

Resisting selfishness

All possible as

We celebrate

The Birth of the Savior

KNOWING THE TRUTH

When the people know the truth

The country will safely live on

Not to say that there won’t be skirmishes

Or battles for power and control

Nor to say that cheating won’t take place

Which will be hard to prove or refute

Success comes for some by

Bending and breaking the law

And when an outside aid arrives

Such as the Chinese Virus and

An excuse to send out unsolicited ballots

To people living or dead and many

No longer residing in the state in question

Or using post office boxes as apartment numbers

Stacks of ballots counted over and over

Duplicate ballots with no creases

All counted in the early hours when

No transparency was available or allowed

We can sense the alliance with China

Which has been covered up by those we trust

They have told us why they want power

Impose more taxes and regulations to

Handicap people from being successful

They do not want individual prosperity

Their desire is for equality — equal in misery

Socialism has never been successful

When the people believe this truth

The country will safely live on

CRITICAL THINKING

The learned ones pontificate

Their words are written down

Believers are excited with the eloquence

Phantom documentation takes place

Consensus leads to high praise

The Nobel Prize sure to follow

Politicians eager to take credit write

New laws to safeguard us from ourselves

Time has a way of correcting human folly

Subscribers, because of volume, do not establish fact

The earth turns out to not be flat

Polar caps grow at each pole and it’s

The sun which forms and destroys ozone and

Why can’t the erudite leave us alone?

MOVING OUR MINDS

My mind doesn’t seem to be

Clicking on all cylinders

It is not really a problem

But I just like to get into a grove

Where words that I like

Flow faster than I can write

Now I am a little bit jumpy

My thoughts are fluttery

I think it is much like life

We would like everything to go right

But like thunder and lightning

Interruptions are part of the game

We deal with them or go into denial

Dreams are of things going right

And that is what I like

My thoughts now are on giving

Make the world a better place

Provide water and food for those without

An unending chore unless things change

The need for power intervenes

Control over the populous gets in the way

But dictators need to be removed

So that liberation of the people takes place

Again, I seem to be dreaming, but

I believe in the power of God

We may pray but must keep on acting

I feel I am in a grove and

Would like to arouse the people to

Give, making situations better

While safeguarding our rights to act

Neglect will lead to disaster

When all is lost we will understand

LITTLE THINGS MEAN A LOT

An old man

Successful

If you should care

Finds a pan

He’s looking for

Rinses it and

Wipes it free of dust

Peals apples:

Macintosh and Ida Reds

Also four Bartlett pears

Cuts them into chunks

After removing the cores

Throws into the clean pan

Adds half a sack of

Rinsed cranberries

Four ounces of rum

One cup of water

And a little cinnamon

Heats on stove

Until the boiling begins

Then covers and

Turns to simmer

Humility is good

Burnt sauce is not

Nothing to salvage

One pan to clean

Dust is not a problem

Black, hard apple crud is

Pride has value

The pan eventually shined

Becomes the original goal

Fingertips need mending

Nerves are frazzled, but

The pan shined and

So did its cover

And just a little rum

To heal internal ache

DREAMING

Dreaming that life

   Would run smooth

In a realistic way

   Where little bumps and cracks

Were things you went around and

   Not the main event

Where a penny was given

   For a thought and

You didn’t need a shield

To receive someone’s 2 cents worth

Where egg shells were associated

   With chickens rather than landmines

And you must travel carefully

   To avoid explosions

Where condition was not an excuse

   For bad behavior

Where tolerance and forgiveness

   Went hand in hand and

Prayers for enlightenment

   Were sincere and

Where humility was standard fare

   And graciousness superseded wrath

I will keep dreaming and

Hoping that my dreams come true

IT WAS JUST A BLOOD DRAW

I walked out of the hospital

I had had a blood-draw

and would be having an on-line appointment

With my urologist on Monday

This would be a first for me

He was taught in Israel; was straight forward

And had a favorable personality

He has authored three books of essays which

Are very interesting. I would put him in the

well qualified category

He had checked my Prostate gland at an

earlier visit and said it was not smooth,

but enlarged; he indicated that I probably had

Cancer there, but not to worry, unless

It metastasized to another part of my body

I will die, he said, of normal things

That older people die of; we can’t live forever

I felt much better having heard that

On this Monday I will be talking to him

Meanwhile I thought about the weather

There was just a dribble of snow

The sky was gray; few birds visible

It is damp and bone chilling, but beautiful

I got into my car; had a few errands to run

I listened to Leonard Cohen singing

“Won’t you come to the window?

I’d like to read your palm”

I would like someone, a Gypsy, maybe

To read my palm, but in the meantime

I’ll keep my faith in God

I have opened up to His purpose for me;

Try to be ready should He call me

And that, my friends, cannot be all bad

FREEDOM

One speaks of freedom

The right of expression

Then becomes aware

Of the right of oppression

The day is here

When we remember

How nice it has been

Not to be a pretender

The truth ruled

And it stood tall

Now it is seemingly rejected

From one and from all

It is not presented

As though it did not exist

And if you exposed it

You did it at risk

The main stream quiet

As if in denial

You expose the truth

And are put on trial

There is no freedom

Except on the left

Your right of expression

Wears not the right crest

What are the answers?

We pray for tomorrow

If we can’t find victory

We will be left in sorrow

SELLING MY MUSINGS

I put my pen to paper

Thinking how lucky I am

I am not confined in my musings

By the whims of some editor

No one is paying me

I haven’t received any advance checks

Thereby putting pressure on me,

To meet some deadline

And in doing so

Clamping my creativity

I doubt I could handle it

Other people’s expectations

Would nullify my own

So I am a free spirit

Under no pressure

I do not have to compromise

And am at liberty

To work or write, if you prefer

At a pace that works for me

I can strum out my thoughts

One at a time or several in a row

I cannot serve two masters

So I choose to serve myself

And let my thoughts flow

For better if perceived right

Or for worse if not

What can it matter?

I have no books to sell

DOES IT RAIN ON YOUR PARADE?

Everything going right

Then suddenly wrong

What made you happy?

And now sad?

The color of the sky

Same for everyone

Does the change

From blue to gray

Steal your joy away

People go on

The ones not you

Enduring changes while

Doing the things they do

You are used to

Prospering and

Now miss the apple tree

Cut down years ago

Wonder why did

It have to go

Can’t get over the fact

That suddenly you don’t

Have something you

Thought you needed

A long time ago

There are other things

Which remain hidden

And so

The rain and gloom

Forgetting that the sun

Will shine again
