LITTLE THINGS MEAN A LOT

An old man

Successful

If you should care

Finds a pan

He’s looking for

Rinses it and

Wipes it free of dust

Peals apples:

Macintosh and Ida Reds

Also four Bartlett pears

Cuts them into chunks

After removing the cores

Throws into the clean pan

Adds half a sack of

Rinsed cranberries

Four ounces of rum

One cup of water

And a little cinnamon

Heats on stove

Until the boiling begins

Then covers and

Turns to simmer

Humility is good

Burnt sauce is not

Nothing to salvage

One pan to clean

Dust is not a problem

Black, hard apple crud is

Pride has value

The pan eventually shined

Becomes the original goal

Fingertips need mending

Nerves are frazzled, but

The pan shined and

So did its cover

And just a little rum

To heal internal ache
