FARM WORK

“We hope you like”
The farmer’s crow
We spent our summer
Making this grow

Started early
In an absolute flurry
With the risk of
A late spring snow

It’s all about
What’s good for you
Good for us, too,
Should you decide to buy

Keeps us from heartache
Dumping makes us blue
The people buy
They always do

Being selective
Is an attitude
Purchase this here
And that over there

It’s happy shopping
And does you good
You’re feeling fine
Buying farm fresh food

Now in the winter
The squash and potato
Remind us of effort
Keeping us grateful

MUSIC FROM A LAND UNKNOWN TO ME

I’m listening to an Ethiopian Christmas song
Very musical, respectfully accompanied
With various instruments adding special beat
The vocal in not understood word wise
But the meaning can be sensed
I love the new and unknown
It satisfies my quest for adventure
It is so settling to my soul
I try to find new meaning
It takes me away from commercialism
Puts me in the arena of spiritualism
Uplifting and inspiring
I think of the Ark of the Covenant
Some claim it is in Ethiopia
Does it really matter, I wonder
It amazes me how strong
The power of love can be
The imagination takes me
To places I have never been to
I am among cultures that
Possess the same love I know
The feelings of expression are different
There is no question, however, that love exists
I find myself trembling and brought to tears
To not know, but to try understanding
Is a powerful journey
I feel I have fellow travelers
And the reality of it all is that it doesn’t matter
It is the taking of the journey that counts
When moved so dynamically it must be understood
That you will never be the same as you once were
The magnificence of the spirit, the Holy Spirit
Beyond our comprehension and never to be questioned

THE SAFE ONES

So easy to speak out
Mostly with hatred
Because the one they dislike
Won’t allow them to be sated

He has been underestimated
They say he should never be there
As President and Commander-in-Chief
And he doesn’t seem to care

All of the dirt dug up has
Fallen back on the perpetrators
They cannot handle the truth
Aren’t they the real traitors?

He has accomplished nothing
According to some feigning truth
But ask a soldier; look him in the eye
Maybe he will boldly call them uncouth

The President is trying to fix something
That has been going on for years
We should all be supporting him
He is alleviating our fears

It is the statists who
Should be pointed out
They are sick with power
The ones who should be fought

But the safe and uninformed arrogant
Try to undermine this President
Truth when pointed out
Is denied with a flurry of insult

The erudite walk their dogs
Drink coffee or their cappuccino
Then walk home with their little bags
Happy with all they know

They obviously know how to clean up
Wouldn’t want to be called out, goodness knows
These are the all knowing, proud and titled
So willing it seems to sell their souls

RAINBOW

Today after the sunshine
We had some rain
And the sky turned
To a medium gray
Before too long
The sun broke through again
Giving us a complete rainbow

It began
As I looked out my motel window
On the parking lot of McDonald’s
Then rose curving upward
Then bending down
About a football field away
Into the gasoline pumps
At a Standard Gas Station

There were no pots of gold
The vision itself
Was the treasure
That vanished
Within five minutes
