You wave as a car travels by you
Going the other way
Sometimes they wave back, other times not
Maybe they didn’t notice or didn’t care
Possibly in a hurry or angry
A Monarch butterfly
Floats from flower to flower
I hum a little song of welcome
I watch as it flies away
Holding out my hand full of sunflower seed
I wait for a Chickadee to fly over and feed
I wait and wait; there are many birds
Eventually one comes
Takes a seed and flies away
Deer are not docile; they are very edgy
Dash away if they are startled
Fight each other over food
Even when there is plenty
They are not, by nature, pets
I think I hear my neighbors
Talking loudly on the road, but
Not harshly or vehemently
They often walk and talk
I look up through the trees
Several Sand-hill cranes are
Flying and squawking
It is not my neighbors
Life is great
